OMG - spousal unit and YouTube!!! His latest kick is sales videos for high-end trawlers - boats that we could never afford even if we were inclined to get back into boating. He keeps bringing his tablet over to me, and frankly, they all start looking alike after a while.
On the other hand, last night, he was bringing up Eddie Izzard clips, and those were great! So I guess there might be a bit of an upside.
Roxy is down for her nap. Yesterday, she slept 3 hours. Not likely she’ll do it again today, but I can dream. I started clearing crap off my desk - not a lot, but it’s a start. Ziva is still hiding under FCD’s side of our bed - she’s not happy that much furniture is gone, depriving her of her prime hiding place. She’s really going to freak when I lock her and Taz in the basement while the painters are here. But that’s for another week.
Good morning, Mumpers! It’s sunny today with an expected high of [checks weather] 80º. For some reason, I couldn’t get to sleep last night. It didn’t help that there were weird, intermittent thuds from upstairs that went on for over an hour. Then I woke up at 6:30. Though I rarely drink coffee now, I am caffeinating this morning.
Plans include boxing up a toaster I’m returning to da jungle and maybe walking it to the UPS Store a mile away. I keep telling myself my carbon footprint must be pretty small. I also have a maintenance request in for a few small items. They may come today or maybe tomorrow or who knows? We have a new assistant manager. This makes the eighth or ninth change in management since I got here four years ago.
sunny, when you can, please let us know how you’re doing. I hope the headache is gone by now. Do you see a headache specialist? I didn’t know there were such people until my son got referred to one by his neurologist. Highly recommend.
wordy, I’ve grown to love cloudy days. I enjoy cheerful sunshine, but the lupus does not, so my enjoyment is from windows only. I like youtube because I can watch the occasional Last Week Tonight or Steven Colbert or, once in awhile, Sixties TV shows or commercials.
Moooom, you might look into getting E-glass for those door windows. It’s untinted but reflects heat. I know little about it, but it seems like a possibility for your front door. And I think the former owners had some nefarious activity going on…making adult movies? If the walls could talk, you’d probably have to plug your ears.
Got some minor work to do on the RV prior to our trip, so today is the day. There is some serious summer-like heat coming our way for the next ten days or so, which is not good news for the firefighters or the tomatoes.
I hate throw pillows. There, I said it and I’m glad to finally get it off my chest.
Oh dear, yeah, it looks like a Shakey’s Pizza got remodeled and someone put the doors on your house. It almost looks like a tint film over glass because the pattern is the same on both. It’ll be messy but fairly easy to peel/scrape off. If you do need to replace the glazing, whether you go with Lexan or glass, it’s not going to be cheap with all those curves.
Oh trust me, I do not calmly accept a doctor’s wishes when they seem to be harming me. This was fine-tuned a handful of years ago when managing a herd of hospitalists and oncologists for DH. “We’re going to try newt’s ear.” Me: flipping through notes “He got newt’s ear at UCSF and had a flurple flaggo reaction.” “OK, no newt’s ear…”
Losing 15 pounds in four days? Ummm… My doc responded last night and said I could stop one of the meds, even though staying on it is “ideal.” Idea or not, I’m already feeling better. Still half warmed-over, but I’ll take the improvement. Tummy still very rumbly.
Survived the first day of irk since March- no students around yet, so it’s just tidying up stuff. I practically need to tie a bit of string to myself before venturing into some of the cupboards- there’s decades of stuff in there, including some they really should have chucked out years ago.
I’m altogether not too sure about stuff there at the moment; they said they were putting me on a course, which is now compulsory for all staff doing any teaching at all- even just helping out like I will be, but didn’t mention that it would be one evening a week for 2 years. That’s… a lot longer than I was expecting, and I’m a bit miffed that I only found out once I was already signed up for it, and only that because one of the other staff, in the same boat, told me. Add that to the fact that I really don’t like living down here, it’s altogether too insular, and the fact that it all seems very vague what they even want me to do this year, and, well, I dunno…
Plus they refund debit purchases with cash, and since my nearest bank location is now hundreds of miles away & I refuse to pay ATM fees, I have to “reverse launder” money into cash however I can!
Then … since I was in the store … and needed a few things … plus, I did work all those O.T. hours recently …
OMG y’all, I think I needed retail therapy. So many little things I’ve been scraping by without. New socks, under-shelf hanging baskets to hold bathroom sundries, that sort of stuff.
Plus I bought a cat toy to help burn off a certain New Kitty energy … and I even bought treats for the ratties!
I was buying them food (the Dollar Sto’ is the only place I can find brown rice these days) and was eyeballing the dog treats.
“Doggies get all the fun toys!” sez I. Then, “man, my rats would destroy some rawhide!” sez I. Then …
Now I have a chicken boobie in the oven, atop the usual bumpy bed of onions, garlic, and a potato. Last N.O.T. in the house! Penultimate onion, too!
How’d that happen?
And now I need brain bleach… The former (now late) owners were in their 80s when we bought this place from them. I do NOT need a mental image of their possible kinks…
I hadn’t considered film, but I just checked - you may be right. If it is, that makes things a WHOLE lot easier. Otherwise, I was going to have to take a pane to a glass shop to be duplicated. But FCD has a shop full of tools and chemicals. Excellent thought.
The doors are typical of the ones in this neighborhood, tho no one else has the yellow crap. They’re heavy, solid wood doors and apart from being ugly, they’re in good shape. So I’m off to find a scraper and some solvent. Thanks!!!
You can get commercial film removal solvent at Home Depot or similar. It’s pretty much water with some ammonia and dish soap. It doesn’t normally need anything aggressive like acetone, naphtha, etc.
If the film was put in properly, there will be a 1/16" gap all around, or they may have cheated and put the film on glass with no regard to edges, then mounted it into the door.
Have several (well, more than several) such things at the house I bought lo these many years ago (15), weird, oogly, inexplicable things, including bizarre plants/landscaping. I’m too embarrassed to post pictures. I would never live them down.
Sounds like your daughter and SIL could use a posse of Mumpers with trucks to show up and move in one fell swoop. Wish we could…at least you get extra time with Roxy.
Morning all. have been accomplished here. That’s about all I can say for myself, unless SD counts for catching up with current events.
Afternoon all. I have been productive, paid my electric bill, bought a new camera (old one has quit) and did the Great September Stock-Up Shopping, all in one trip. All foodstuffs have been put away and now I’m hoping the rain showers in the state keep dodging us so that maybe I can actually get a soccer practice in (I’ll know in about 2 hours). But I’ll need to bring extra water, it’s as humid as it can get out there.
FCM, looks like there might be a different pattern underneath?? Show us the entire clean windows once you’ve got it all. And good assist, gotti.
Shoe, sometimes ya gotta shop…
Nut, you can drop the class if your career life moves you elsewhere, right? But 2 years to complete one class is…unusual.
wordy, I watch travelogues of a Englishman flying places and three young Australians dropping stuff on stuff from 120 feet high…so I guess I’m just as bad as husban and son-unit (PS-if they want to know what those sites are, let me know…)
OK, need to relax without dropping off to nappage. All y’all take care.
It certainly does and that first step is usually the hardest, or so they say. Whoever ‘they’ are. Whomever? I dunno know who vs. whom and at my very advanced age have given up trying. The spot next to my nest on my loveseat is piled perilously high with paperwork I’m going to do any minute now…any minute now being the last 4 months.
My first thought was a funeral home missing their doors.
Isn’t there a Mumper rule about posting a picture whenever you post about a cute pet behavior?
I only watch Stephen Colbert, Trevor Noah, John Oliver and my favorite band Home Free. Otherwise I want to read it, not watch it. Call me a throw back, I am.
I highly recommend headache specialists too. I went to one after a year and a half of constant post-traumatic brain injury headaches and he changed my world. Granted there is only one in my state and I had to wait months for my first appt. but so worth it.
I believe that is called ‘bait and switch’. Shame on them. Hope you can just quit when you get a chance to move somewhere you’d enjoy.
Chicken boobie is demolished. Bones are in freezer for future soup-ification. My tummy haz a happy.
Ratties eagerly sniffed their new treats, then passed out on top of them.
African soft-furred rats are wholly nocturnal. I expect them to re-discover their rawhides tonight ("OMG Bob, did you find- " “Dude. Dude!”) and then no traces to be seen by morning.
Boo bizarre plants, you say? That sounds intriguing…
The irk course situation is irritating- it’s one of those things that hath been decreed from on high, so my manager didn’t have any info about it either, and that sort of thing happens fairly often. The actual site is pretty nice, but everything can suddenly change with no warning.
The job market here is a nightmare right now though, so I’m not expecting to find anything else fast.
Ooh… the moon just appeared, all big and round and shiny. Pretty!
That’s exactly why I go bra shopping in person where I can get measured shoe. Right now, I’m waiting until the plague is over before I replace mine.
metal mouse, as for the camera, you may want to come into the 21rst century and get a smart phone for quick pictures. While you can get some good shots with them, you’ll still want to get your good camera fixed before travelling.
wordy , most of my TV viewing is via streaming, so YT plays a big part in watching history, craft videos, etc.
Moooooooom, the door looks much better. Doncha wish you had thought about this 16 years ago?
metal mouse was right about the storm slamming me. About the time I clicked onto the MMP, the power flickered just enough to shut my desktop down, but not enough to turn the TV off or make the clocks flash 12:00. We are still under a flash flood warning.
Supper is et and fixing to do KP before watching NCIS and playing in the studio.
Sigh…I love NCIS. Haven’t seen it for 3 years. I used to watch every week with a client, until she died. Then I used to get the season DVD sets from my library, which I watched several times over but stopped when they didn’t have the most recent seasons.
Your post got me excited about watching it again with dvd sets my library has probably gotten since then, til I remembered I no longer have a TV to watch them on nor a DVD player. IPads don’t do discs.
I miss Gibb’s head slaps and his ‘rules’. I may never get over Zika’s and Michael’s being written out of the plot, but I’d sure enjoy the chance to try.
Enough nostalgia. I’m getting to be an old fart. We all knew that.
