Up, Up and Away in the MMP

Couldn’t handle that, I’m afraid. I’d be curious to see what Warsaw and Moscow look like now. They were under communist rule when I was there and they were gray and dreary and the people looked sad and depressed. I agree with you about African safaris. We did two major ones (Botswana, Tanzania) and they were the height of all our travels.

Unfortunately, I learnt Saturday that they are, in fact, not made for walking. At all.

His “school” is still in session, tho in summer it’s more like daycare than preschool. But he’ll be their problem!

OK, lunch has been ingested and I’m hoping the batteries are recharged. I just have a little more whacking to get done. Off I go!!

Afternoon.
Actually went in today, instead of writing at home, because I had a meeting… which kinda got altered to a 20 minute chat during lunch because everyone is crazy busy. Also accidentally timed it for someone else’s birthday, where the office baker brought in a ridiculously good homemade cake… I was planning on skipping the celebration until I saw the cake.

For travelling, there’s no way I could pick just one place I’d like to visit. The list of places I’d like to go is long. I’m eyeing up Portugal for a week once this thesis is done, but that’s mostly because it should be a relatively easy option and I’ve not been.

I’ve done a fair bit of travel, at least 25 or so countries, depending on what you count as a country. In fact, as my phone pictures show me, 3 years ago today I had a day trip to Buenos Aires[1]. I’d like to go back for more than a day trip…

  1. From Uruguay, on the ferry across the Rio Plata, I didn’t go from the UK for a day trip- I’m mad but I’m not that mad ↩︎

Okay - That looks pretty darned cool.

Mrs Magill posted pictures of Squeaky on his first day of Kindergarten and of today, the first day of his senior year. We’re going to have an empty nest next year.

Wow.

So nothing like turning into the road to get to the employee parking lot, the road is mostly not there:
(These are daytime photos, imagine 0330 dark and no warning.)

I was on the 100 Sort table for a bit, then loading 200 Top Blue and Top White. Not bad apart from the PT Sup waiting till the end to do irregs, and having me run them, so I had to do all mine at once. Some dude ordered 3 wine fridges at once. even I don’t drink that much. then I had to help pull and load Top Green on the 300. A lot of jumping into cages for that. The car next to that set had about 2 cars worth of boxes, overflowing. We have more lasers that the Galactic Empire, but we can’t get a computer to calculate a volume warning off of those scans? Clean look worse that it was, apart from having to lift a wrecked 100lbs electric mower off the floor and onto the cart. I was still out by 11. I fueled up Carmen, and did my aldi run. $75. But now it’s naptime.

Ireland.

Where’s your sense of adventure? Avoiding being Skynet-ed by a Ruskie drone swarm while crossing the Vistula would add spice to the tale!

I used to say that every day at store opening.

That’s your duty as a RDOS.

Pffft. I’m going to bed.

Also the walled cities. Nothing like pulling up to one in Bavaria, having 5000 Japanese tourists pour and, and everybody looking at Uncle Bill like “How feckin’ lost did you get us?”

If I won the lottery, I’d love to see the F1 races in Monaco, Britain, Italy(The Temple of Speed!), then hang around a chill for a week afterwards,

Well, it’s the afternoon and except for the shopping and sammich acquisitions I have done nothing of consequence except snack and add to the waistline (not looking forward to getting on the scale at the gym today). Still, man does not live by bread alone (ham, bacon, cheese, tomatoes, apple pie, pretzels and bananas have their place).

Mollie, always nice to embarrass the youth of the nation now and then.

Given the general consensus, if I ever hit the lottery big-time we’ll have a Mumper meet-up in Iceland…but don’t hold your breath, I only go north to buy tickets when it’s over a Billion…

Shoe, that’s a good one. I have seen the Southern Cross, but despite being in Northern latitudes a few times, never seen the Aurora.

Cookie, I know it’s not the same, but there is a 50+ Scottish travel-poster named Steve Marsh on You Tube who just travels the way you’d expect you or I to travel and look at things, you might want to see if he has anything on Warsaw (Moscow probably not). I enjoy him simply walking about places and seeing them from his eyes.

Nut, only been to Lisbon and a couple of port cities, but really liked what I saw in Portugal and the people are quite nice…heck, the cars even stop to let pedestrians cross the street!!

doggio, surprised the city didn’t notify or otherwise let folks know the work was coming…or is this private property?

And time to pack up my calories in my old gym bag and sweat, sweat, sweat. Catch y’all later.

Just put together a new band saw for the other shop. No AC, and I got to where I couldn’t see cuz of the sweat dripping on my glasses. Now fetching (heh) Ms Peach to go to the vet for her yearly shots, and a mani-pedi.

Went to my eye dr to pick up my new glasses. Oops, closed; power outtage. They are always closed on tuesdays so now I have to buy contact lens solution to get me to weds. I cant read with my glasses sans right lens. Somehow the contact in my left eye makes it possible.

Ditches have been whacked. I yanked a pack of ham out of the freezer - that will form the basis for supper. That’s pretty much all I’ve accomplished since returning from the dump. Tomorrow I start with Cetol. Not much else for today.

I’m not sure what I’ll do for dinner, but it’ll probably involve potatoes. I pulled a bunch more out Saturday.

I want to go to Budapest and Ireland. Plus I want to go to Mallorca, just for these pastries:

Things have changed quite a bit in Lisbon since we lived there in 93-95 then. We traveled all over Portugal on our time off and it’s quite an interesting place. We have friends who said a giant “fuck you America” and moved there permanently. They live in the southern part of the country and spend all their time traveling all over Europe.

Portugal has been on our short list of places to retire to.

I’ve seen not-all-that-impressive auroras a couple of times, but since I was a kid I really, specifically, wanted to see the Southern lights. Despite a year in New Zealand, including going out to the middle of nowhere at night when there was one predicted, and camping in the middle of nowhere, I have yet to see even a glimmer of them.

Just picked (and et) the first of the non-cherry tomatoes. Not grown that variety before, and the plants weren’t looking all that great, so I wasn’t sure I’d bother again.

I’m growing them again next year.

There is a large ex-pat community in the south; some 1.5 million expats live in the country, from what I understand, only 15k-20k of that number are American. A lot of Brits retire there, and some 500k Brazilians. From what I gathered from my friend, it’s a fairly involved process. I think it took them a couple of years to get things set up. The locals are apparently not thrilled to have a lot of Americans and the like living there, but it’s a boon to the government.

Can’t tell anything about Russia, but b.c. most of my mother’s family is in Warsaw (or Wawa-adjacent) I was there as a little kid when things were, as you said, gray and dreary. This would’ve been mid- or late-80s. I still remember the horrible toilet paper, and the lines in front of every store, and the fact that even in the heat of summer you had to boil water to get a friggin’ drink. Ice? Hah. You drank boiled lukewarm water while your cousins stared at you.

I remember running to the 1st water fountain at the airport on the way back home & tanking up like a tiny camel.

Went back after capitalism & globalism started working their magic, so I’d guesstimate mid- or late-90s, and things were much more vibrant. Lotsa new construction (and not those horrid cement Communist blocks) and people excited to try new things.

Like being hydrated.

In keeping with the earlier posts, I thought maybe he’s on the way to Australia.

Wise decision. SURPRISE!! cake is one of the best kinds.

Earthquake?

Small biz/eatery?

Whenever I get the opportunity, imma borrow this.

TAG! You’re “it.”

I can imagine a great deal of startled profanity by a very surprised driver.

WTH happened?

Howdy Y’all! We had quality cee-mint pond time followed by showers, nappage, and day drinkin’. Then sup got fixed and et and the kitchen cleanded up. I watched some stoopid teevee, but was not into it, so here I am. OYKW is engrossed in one of his beloved crime shows. I think it’s the one with the duck lips woman.

Mollie Mrs. Magill and you will feel bad when Squeaky’s cause of death is listed as died from parental embarrassment. In the mean time, keep it up! Indeed, the boots are cute!

WetOne enjoy gettin’ the do did.

Nuts good cake is always an incentive for me.

Oh, drat. I wanted to post early this morning when I wasn’t going to be far behind, but life got complicated from the get-go, and now I’m 38 posts behind and counting, plus I have to leave in a few minutes. However, I wanted to share the news that MY DAUGHTER GOT A JOB! It’s not in her field and not a career, but she’s going to be a medical receptionist at a hospital. It pays enough for her to survive, which is what counts right now. If you felt a gust of wind from the west, it was us sighing in relief.

I’ll try to get back on here soon to catch up on your lives. Didn’t I used to have more time?

Big, squishy hugs!
