I am in the process of rebuilding a reasonably old computer, installing new drives and software. One piece of digital camera software does not run; saying it requires IE6 to be installed first.
I have win2k SP2 which IIRC has IE5.01. (I’m not at home at present and can’t confirm).
A cruise around Microsoft’s site has me going in circles and uncertain of what I need to download and install. The way I’m reading it at present has me needing XP before being able to do IE6. Is this correct?
Are there any other service packs, patches or rollups that I ought to install at the same time? I know that security has always been an issue with IE, which is why i have avoided it completely; preferring other browsers. However in this particular case, it seems like it might be necessary for me to have a more up-to-date version installed.

You should be able to install IE6 - according to this page, it will even install on Win98.
You can download and install it from here
I think your best bet for updates, patches etc is to visit Windows Update - this will interactively recommend the appropriate updates and patches for your machine - except that you need to install IE6 first, before that will work for you.
Here’s me thingking that is a patch for iexplorer…
I’ll give it a try.
Thanks
