Upon ending my MA program - a reflective MMP

Congrats to the graduate!

Lesse here… poop, Paris, amorous kitties, bad days at work and possible felonies.

Average day.
I had my last at work yesterday. It culminated in my getting two ER admits at the same time, 10 minutes before my shift ended.

Any second thoughts I had about leaving were quelled.
But, I called my new manager today to say hello etc. Come to find out she has scheduled me for 3 days a week. Um…I was hired for 2. We worked out a compromise, sort of. BUT. I have to work on my birthday!

This is just not right.

Off to run errands like a mad woman so I can leave town tomorrow at 0500. Gah.

Enjoy your weekends, folks.

I used to deal with that “right hand fighting with left hand” thing a lot when I was spending half my day working with the database manager and the other half the billing manager. It neearly sent me over the edge, because instead of the two of them working out a reasonable schedule of sharing, they each in turn yelled at me for not finishing some important task or other.
Bobbio - wow! that was some shift! sorry most of it was so awful and sad. I should put you in touch with my nephew; you could trade stories.

Morning all!
Good to hear you’ve got some job prospects, Swampy! Hopefully one of them will work out for ya.
Tigs, “Neighborhood Fiber Company” sounds like a euphemism for a bran cereal corporation. I certainly don’t think that hand painted yarn would make you poop better/more often, but you never know.

I’m not sure if I mentioned this, but after Monday (my training and first day on the receptionist job) I got a call from the person who hired me. She asked me if I wanted more hours; what’s amazing is that it bumps me up into the category of “full time” (30 hours) and still gives me two weekdays with which to have a “weekend” with Acid Lamp. Sure, the hours are mostly evenings, but I don’t mind. It’s not like I would have been using those evenings if I had the daytime shift at the dealership. I’m just glad we’re not going to have to be miserly with our pennies and not have enough leftover to save for a rainy day (or a bit of fun).

I have three months until I’m in school again. I have a bizarre feeling of anticipation that’s much unlike the transition from high school to undergrad. This time, I’m anxious to get there and get back to the “student” thing, whereas before I had a bunch of anxieties about being tossed into a completely different place from my comfort zone.

Well, yarn is undigestible so it counts as fiber… I just don’t think it’s really edible, you know?

Boy, lots of good job news around! Cool!

I’m so glad someone here feels my pain…

Yep, I’m home. Left work early, stopped at the credit union to get some change for tomorrow, took the doggies out, closed the house, turned on the AC, and just finished a turkey sammich. In a little bit, I’m going to change into grubbies and head downstairs. I have to clean my wheel and a bunch of my tools, price and pack the last batch of stuff I made, and get ready to load everything into the van. I’ve got lists and lists, so with luck, I won’t forget too much.

Tomorrow is supposed to be cooler and less humid than today - I’m just hoping my booth is near some trees. At least it faces east, so I should be spared afternoon sun. Maybe. Theoretically… In any event, we’ll have a cooler full of ice and water. I will not dehydrate.

Sunday, I promised to help out on the boat. I get to sand teak - woo and/or hoo. Not even close to my favorite chore, but there isn’t a lot of it, so that’ll help. The worst will be the handrails - they’re just a pain to work on. Regardless, I’m going to hook up some kind of awning - I’ll go blind with sunlight reflecting off the white deck, and my back will fry. That just will not do.

I’m going to finish reading the comics, then head to my grubby studio. Where are my serving lads when I need them??

well, obviously, your pain wasn’t sever enough to keep you from punning…(and btw - I’ve already shared the story (as my own - hope you don’t mind - I changed a few details to make it more ‘me’) with friends and gotten wonderfully appropriate responses.)

Just for Haze a little Pomp And Circumstance. All rise please.

In case I haven’t mentioned it lately…

Y’ALL ARE A BAD, BAD INFLUENCE!

So, this mornin’ I’m in a job interview, which went very well, thank you for asking. After the <snerk> oral <snerk> part, there was a written question. This particular question had to do with how I’d deal with staff who had been deficient in performing certain tasks. The good thing… I was alone in a room to answer this question, so no one heard meget the giggles. The bad thing… the first things that come to mind are strangle 'em and beat ‘em senseless. EVIL INFLUENCES ALL OF YAS! However, I did not write that down, much to my credit. I gave a lovely written discourse about making sure everyone understood the policies involved, developing strategies to solve the problem now and in the future and what disciplinary actions could be taken should the situation prove serious enough. I had thirty minutes to answer the question. I wrote three pages. I either did real good or I am a big ol’ windbag. We shall see.

The Miller thing consisted of me talkin’ with the personnel guy a total of ten minutes and being given directions to a place to be at eight a.m. Monday morning to take a four hour aptitude type test. I’ve given and taken bazillions of this type test over the years so I ain’t worried, but four hours!?!?

Bobbio just daaaaaaaay-ummmmmmm!!! I can’t think of anything else to say about your night last night. So, let me just say I am proud of ya for what you’re doin’.

Sean AIR, some of those SAT questions might have made better sense hungover or fallin’ down drunk even. Same for the GRE.

BooFae glad your day is better.

Nashii yay over the increased hours and stuff!!!

rigs I am a summer baby so the very idea of workin’ on my bday just stinks. Heh. As a little feller in school, I was supposed to be jealous of those who had bdays durin’ the school year cause they got to do such wonderful things as wear a stoopid paper crown and be first in the lunch line (Yay! I get my bologna boat first!) and have their folks bring cake and ice cream to school. By comparison, on my bday I got to run around actin’ a fool all day long doin’ whatever then get to have cake and ice cream and presents. I say I got the better deal.

**rosie ** - I changed it myself from the original telling, which involved a farmer…

OK, this time for real - I’m going downstairs to work. Really. I MEAN IT!!!

I am eating breakfast. Praise me.

This has been an awful day. I hope it improves considerably.

Yay for LiLi eatin’ breakfast! Even more yays if it stays down. Here’s hopin’ it did/does.

Supper tonight is burgers on the grill and sweet potato french fries. I lurve sweet potato fries. Just to make it healthy there’s also lettuce and tomato. Plus bacon and cheese. Ok, that does not make it healthy but non-nude fried bacon is just so good on a burger as is nice aged sharp cheddar cheese.

OOPS! Sorry LiLi you probably don’t need to read about stuff like this right now.

FCM, young lady, if you’re reading this, stop it this instant and march down to that basement and get busy! That wheel and those tools are not going to clean themselves and that stuff is not gonna price and pack itself, you know! Now march! I mean it! Don’t you stomp your foot at me! It won’t do any good. Now get busy!

LiLi, do you do the technicolor yawn on anything you eat, or just certain types of foods?

Some experimentation may be in order to see what you can tolerate. Intuitively, oatmeal could stay down easier than bacon and eggs, but then we’re discussing pregnancy. If ever I try to get elected as Og, one of my campain promises will be to make human pregnancy 6 months instead of nine, because that was just about how long I could tolerate VWife with a bun in the oven.

I just had THE coolest talk with my soon-to-be-ex boss. He’s been my direct report for the last 3 years here - easily one of the top couple of bosses I ever had. His job was eliminated by our Board (in their ‘wisdom’, don’t start me) and the end of the month he’s gone. He landed on his feet in a nice cushy job, so he’ll be ok.

Anyways - a good chunk of his job (that which was deemed ‘unecessary’ by the Powers That Be - they **‘be’ **idjuts if you ask me) is going to fall to your humble Bus Guy, so we sat and talked about software he uses and people he talks to and at one point I expressed some misgivings about handling all this AND being the Bus Guy.

His exact response was “nah, you can do this, besides no one else here has a freaking clue how this all works, so they’ll never see you flounder if you do”. Then he said I should always call or write if I think I need a hand.

What a cool guy, I’ll miss him.

Break time. Wheel and tray are clean. Tools are clean. Ware boards are clean. Most pieces are packed and staged by the door. I think I was able to check off about half of my list.

I did take pics of this last batch. I’m about to make up labels for the big dog bottle - it’s going to be a display illustrating different techniques used in clay work. Then I’ll drive the van around to the basement door, and **FCD ** should be home by then, so we can start loading.

It’s doggone hot here - it was over 90 at noon, so I’m sure it’s even more toasty out there now. But it’s a comfy 76 in the house, and much less humid, so yay.

I am gonna roast tomorrow…

Permit Unca swampy to brag a bit. I just got off the phone with my youngest niece. She’s sis’s kid and even though I’m good about treatin’ all da nieces and da nephew equally, well, she’s the fav cause, she’s the youngest (just turned sixteen) and sis’s kid and sis and I are tight. Anywho… she called me cause she said she wanted to forewarn me about what she had just got done doin’ to her hair. She has (ok had) gorgeous long auburn colored hair. What she did was get it cut. Short. So she says, really, really short. Stinker that she is, she said “I started to send a pic but I decided it’d be more fun to see your face the first time you see it.” The smartass does not fall far from the tree. Ok, the brag part. She donated her hair to Locks of Love. Is that not just the jakest thing! Even jakier is the fact that she decided to get her hair cut so she could do this! So, I’m a big ol’ braggin’ Uncle right now!   What a great kid!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled MMP.

Very cool, unca swampy! You must make sure we see a pic of you seeing her for the first time.

Bob, I throw up anything I eat in the morning, until it’s time for me not to throw up anymore. And anything I eat in the rest of the day that’s ‘wrong’, defined, ‘suddenly makes me sick although it doesn’t always’.

There’s a lot of gray area.

Also, I don’t eat solids in the morning until I think I’m not going to puke anymore, because throwing up ginger ale and water is infinitely better than throwing up solids.

I’m working this into an art form.

Swampus–me too. July is the month of my birth (but I did envy the kids their school Bdays). We never had bologna boats and I am very glad of that!

Drae–I hope something pans out for you soon.

I am still grumpy and NOT looking forward to getting up at 0430 to get on the road by 0530 to get to class by 0830. I wish I could Apparate.

Rigs once again, the purpose of grad school is to make you suffer. So, suck it up! :stuck_out_tongue: Says da bear who did some of the same kinda stuff durin’ his grad school years.

FCM if I can figure out how to get a pic and get it to the puter it shall be done. BTW, you packed up yet or still slackin’ off, young lady? :dubious:

OK, back to checkin’ of fried sweet N.O.T.. Ol’ y’all know who is on grill duty.

Howdy. The truck was late, the only driver they could find had already hit his hour limit , and the stocker disappeared. We had to load through the “loading dock”, which is 8 feet back from the road, and ten feet above ground level(and faces a street). Everything hurts, so I went and bought a case of Yuengling. On the lighter side, Paris Hilton was dragged back to jail. I guess “skank ho” isn’t a medical condition after all.

Yay for Mr. SCL! Does this mean there will be hockey in the fall?

Heck of a night, bobbio.

Great news, tashii!!

**LiLi[/]b, glad you kept breakfast down.

Great nes Unca swampy! Four hour aptitude test? Must involve drinking games

Congrats Haze

Wow, Bobbio, that was some shift! Thanks for being one of the good guys who tries to help people through all that awfulness.

I can understand your frustration, BooFae. I would feel the need to say something snarky. A lot. (I do this anyway, but not usually at/about my boss, who is a very nice, reasonable guy.)

Hope the throw-uppy phase passes quickly, LiLi. Sounds like no fun at all.

All that pottery looks really nifty, FCM. Today I love the kitty jars.

Nice to hear that your boss is leaving with such a supportive attitude, MBG. That’ll make your transition a little bit easier, I’m sure.

Congrats on the extra hours, nashi and on the end of the old job, rigs! (Wasn’t it just yesterday that it seemed like it would never be over?)

And Congratulations to the graduate, of course.

Apparently all the good thoughts worked (thank you) because the awfulest parts of my day were tolerable. There’s more awfulness scheduled for Monday, of course, but I’m hoping it will remain at today’s levels.

Got home and read the MMP, at some point moved the computer off my lap, then fell asleep. Cell phone woke me up with an IT problem I needed to OK a fix for. (Fortunately, it was more “Here’s what I’m doing. OK?” from a reliable source; otherwise I’d have been incapable of coherent decision-making.)

Now I need to do some cleaning and possibly figure out what the heck I’m wearing to that lovely wedding reception tomorrow. Or maybe I’ll just take another nap.

First, though, there’s dinner, which will include a visit to the yummy ice cream place around the corner. Yay!

Back later, I’m sure.
