Upon ending my MA program - a reflective MMP

First off, yes, the van is all packed except for the cooler and one last crate. It’s sitting next to the garage ready to leave by 7:30. Secondly, do NOT call me young lady. Of all the expressions I hate, I believe I hate that more than anything. I know it’s a “southern thing” and I’m sure some people who say it think they’re flattering me (and I *know * that’s not your motivation…) but in my world, “young lady” is the appellation of a 4-year-old who is misbehaving. So knock it off, you geezer!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Now I need to decide what I want to wear tomorrow. And I need a shower. And a drink.

I better sell a damn buttload of ceramics tomorrow!

I. Am. So. Frickin’. Tired. Of. Beading.

I’m tired of making them, glazing them, stringing them, pricing them, thinking about them…and I still have three weeks left. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhh!

On the upside, Mr. SCL will be at work tomorrow so I will have the whole blessed house to myself. I love my husband but too much togetherness is getting on my last nerve.

Good Luck tomorrow, FCM. One day I’m going to order a kitty jar, but we’re too broke right now.

Yay, it’s the weekend!

Today’s accomplishment: Took my car in for emissions testing and it passed.
Bonus accomplishment: Bought toilet paper, soap and cat food.

I got another call today from the insurance people saying that my doctor’s office told them they need a signed authorization to release my medical info to them. sighs Now I’m gonna have to make a special trip to sign that one form, and then make another trip when I get my packet in the mail. Lousy rassum-frassum paperwork.

It sucks even worse because I’m dropping my car off on Monday to get the front bumper replaced, so I’m gonna have to bum a ride to get there. Anyone here free on Tuesday afternoon?

bobbio, that sounds like a horrendous shift. I admire EMTs a great deal; it’s hard work and you see the worst (and sometimes the best) of life.

Tired. Just got home from work. The woman who was training me asked me to stay late so we could cover everything. I popped into the MMP at noon to read, but wasn’t sure if I wanted to post from this job or not. So, when I get home, I check the answering machine. Guess what? I have a call (and email) from Jennifer, in recruiting, from the Accounting Firm I Am Currently On Assignment To (AFIACOAT). They saw my resume, would I be interested in interviewing? Sigh. Might as well. I sent her an email response. Just think, if I had checked my email at work, I could have called her. Actually, recruiting is literally around the corner from my desk, so I could have stopped by. Fate is conspiring again, I must stay strong!

ETA: Almost forgot - met a very attractive co-worker today. Hmmm.

FCM , what exactly, IS a buttload?

Nevermind.

:stuck_out_tongue:

cool unca swampy’s got a cool niece, good on her.

This is my semi-drunken post.

'Night.

Jahdra - be careful of office romances - people love to gossip, especially about the new kid.

Awww. Thanks. (And also gt, dogbutler, **rigs ** - thanks for the congrats!) My friend and I were actually wondering why they didn’t play Pomp and Circumstance when we had to walk in - they actually ended up playing some weird bagpipe music. The speeches were short, thank God, but they called the names of everyone receiving degrees, so that part took a bit of time. It felt a bit surreal because I was SOOOOOOOOO hungry during the ceremony, so all I could think about was eating a pizza. Heh. Now I have a piece of paper that proves I paid over 30 grand to spend a year of hell. Yay me.

We all got drunk tonight, of course. I ended up chatting with That Guy’s girlfriend about my new job and teaching urban teens (she works with a non-profit that tutors middle school students in underprivileged neighborhoods). Talk about surreal. She was so friendly and helpful and nice - and I was like, ‘I can’t believe I’m sitting here across from you, having a normal conversation while your boyfriend, who I just slept with less than a week ago, is sitting next to you and trying not to be obvious while he eyes us uneasily.’ Life is weird.

I’ve skimmed the OP but am too exhausted and drunk to make appropriate comments. So hugs/kisses to all, and I shall be more coherent tomorrow, hopefully.

Up early, of course. I was having a bizarro dream that I was made a State Senator. Not elected or appointed - just some group - perhaps TPTB??? - decided I could be a State Senator. Now, I’ve had political aspirations for some time - I feel I am destined to be Queen of the World - but State Senator? * <shrug> * And, no, I didn’t drink last night.

Part of my reason for getting up was to check the weather. We’d been threatened with T-storms overnight and this morning. I just looked at the radar loop, and everything seems to have moved offshore. But as far as I could tell, it’s a bit overcast out there. Clouds are fine. Precip is bad. No precip till after the show is over and I’m packed and on the way home. With luck, I’ll only be packing 2 or 3 boxes of leftovers instead of the 5 or 6 in the van right now.

**Haze ** - sounds like the girlfriend would be a better friend for you than That Guy. Am I evil because I giggled at the thought of him sitting there, terrified that you’d say something…?? Am I also evil for hoping that my daughter won’t want to walk for graduation so I can skip the endless litany of names come May? Yeah, probably.

I’ve got about an hour to surf and read the funnies before I have to shower and get ready to go. There’s a cat on the arm of my chair headbutting me and a doggie giving me the hairy eyeball for some reason. There aren’t nearly enough animals in this house.

Happy Saturday, all! I hope something MMP-worthy happens today. Laterz, dooooodz!

HAZE–having a convo with TG’s GF sounds like part of a just punishment for That Guy. I hope you threw in some conspiratorial looks and lowered your voice to her–to really make him paranoid.

I don’t like cheaters. He’s the “player” here-I [del]wonder[/del] doubt you’re the only one he’s done this with (sorry, didn’t mean to hurt).

Off to be a grad school student this weekend–SOME OF US aren’t done yet…

I, too, am enjoying the idea of your conversation with the girlfriend, Hank. Hee.

I’m very awake. Wanted to sleep in, but it’s not happening right now.

Cool on the generous niece, swampy!

Hope the craft fair goes really well, FCM.

Maybe I’ll try to wander back to bed now.

GT

**FCM **-- good luck! Hope you have nothing to pack into the car on the way back!

**VunderBob **-- What a sad shift :frowning:

Li-Li – A day or two of setback shouldn’t get you too far down… how far along are you? It really should get better after 15-16 weeks, IIRC from my days as Puker’s Mate.

**Haze **-- yay for being officially graduated  And double-yay for scaring the living shit out of That Guy

Been a busy weekend here – Terrible Twins[sup]TM[/sup] spent the night at (separate) sleepovers. Which meant driving 4 times… luckily one of the houses was only one neighborhood over, and the other is only a third of the way cross-town, so it wasn’t too bad.

Dinner with my parents and siblings was just **Special Teen **and I – Special Wife had a hard week and concked out hard around 7 PM.

This morning we managed to catch an hour at the gym before going to pick the twins up from their various sleepovers… add to that general weekend chores like shopping for the week, doing some laundry, etc… and I think I need to get into work tomorrow to get a bit of rest!

Where’s the rest of the Eastern Hemisphere today?

Graduation ceremonies are an endless source of fun for me - we have around 20 graduation ceremonies in the summer and probably six in the winter for all our students. I get to do some of the hall duties, you never know for sure how many duties you’ll get, the most I had one summer was four but that meant I got to sit through four different ceremonies. We reckon to have about 250-300 students per ceremony (that’s about as many as will fit in the Great Hall, along with dignitaries and doting parents etc) plus we give away an honorary award to someone each ceremony.

Hall duties mean not only that you have to sit through the speeches and stuff but it also means getting the grads in and out of their seats, making sure they’re in the right order according to the list we’re given because that’s the list the PVC reads from as they go up one at a time on stage to shake the Chancellor’s hand.

But the endless litany of names isn’t enough any more. This year the Chancellor has decided to experiment with the Engineering schools and we now have the added bonus of the postgrad research students have their name and their thesis title read out. Oh joys.

In other news, we had a fun night out at a local hotel which was putting on a Black Country Party Night for us. An extremely filling three-course dinner followed by a local comedian and then the inevitable cheesy music disco (at that point we retired to the bar with a bottle of wine for a chat). Got home about half past midnight and opened another bottle of wine, then proceeded to play our way through some favourite music DVDs and stuff. No idea when I got to bed but 'im indoors was asleep on the living room floor until about 8am - I think he must have been talking to one of the cats when he dozed off! Either that or he was stealing Shadow’s catnip.

Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. Soon I shall motivate myself out the door to sis’s house. We’re takin’ mom to lunch and all that stuff this afternoon. The big party’s tonight.

Senator FCM here’s to you sellin’ out, young lady. :stuck_out_tongue:

Study hard Rigs. Congrats again Haze! I didn’t walk for grad school. I was all, “just gimme the dang diploma already!” Besides I was across the state from UGA at the time and didn’t want to drive all the way back up just for that. I finished in February but the ceremony was not until June.

Feel better LiLi.

Ok off to purtify and get on the road.

Oooh, forgot to comment on the Senator thing. You’d be an excellent choice, of course. I imagine your state legislature could use someone of your caliber. (I’ve met a few of our esteemed legislators and they’ve pretty much all caused me to  ) Perhaps it’s a sign that you should consider this as a second career?

I walked for my M.A. because I skipped my undergrad and one of my classmates was walking too. We got to sit and walk together and with someone from a related program. Actually had fun.

Guess I should do something semi-productive. I’ve had mac-n-cheese for breakfast already and should probably consider something additional.

GT

I’m up and caffeinating. I think I’ll do some laundry and recycling before work.

Senator FCM, are you hoping for a freezer full of cash?

rigs, good luck studying!

Enjoy the party, swampy!

BooFae, maybe 'im indoors was playing drinking games with the cats?

Morning, everyone. Congratulaions again, Haze. The ninja offer still stands, and maybe after he’s dead, you and The Girldfriend can become good friends. Maybe.

Yesterday was godawful. I had to leave work after an hour, come home, and lie down. And then scuttle to the bathroom. Noone Special, that is not comforting. I’m just finishing my ninth week. Two more months and I’ll shoot myself. It’s supposed to trail off at 13-14 weeks.

I woke up not feeling sick. I’m drinking ginger ale, and I don’t feel very sick. Oh please don’t let today be bad. We’re going to Mass and sometime later we’re supposed to see Pirates with QD, Driving Husband, and Lazy Husband.

(Recalculates) You’re right. It was the classic “first trimester” for us as well; dunno how I got that to be 15-16 weeks :smack: Sorry!

Hope things ease off in a month. Maybe I set a good spell for you by scaring you like that, and you’ll be done with this all before the end of June

Good job on the sheepskin, and the talk with TG’sGF haze!

Bagpipes?

I’m waiting for the coffee machine to stop making noise so I can slurp some caffiene, then I have much to do today.

The bike ride up and down the Fox, wursh the car, and run into the next town to get some Ikea furniture and pickup the Dad’s Day gift that the kid has bought for me, my nice shiny new watch.

Then home to sit in the sun and sear some poor animal’s flesh on the grill.

Sell lots FCM!!!

FCM - go for it - but start off locally - is there a board of trustees or coucilmen in your community?
Speaking of weird dreams - in one, I was in Brooklyn visiting someone or other, and ran into Cousin (not too surprising, she lives there) so we walked a while to a Dunkin Donuts. We ordered, then the counter girl offered us a free sample of a new beverage they were trying: A glass full of cocktail olives covered in hot chocolate (but since I didn’t want the olives, she offered me a glass of lemon rinds covered in hot chocolate) Then I dreamed I had to go to the bathroom, so I woke up and took care of business.
The other dream was earlier in the night - I was at a restaurant with friends and family (my parents oftne appear in my dreams) and we ordered appetizers and perused the menu for entreé items. Our appetizers appeared without benefit of server, who we tried to flag down so we could order the rest of the meal, but none were around. We waited over an hour for one to appear, who apologized for the wait explaining that this was normal for this restaurant as the chef prepared each meal individually as he was the only one in the kitchen. I thought this was completely unacceptaable, so off I went in search of the manager, who turned out to be (IRL) the owner of the salon I go to, except he had a different name.
It’s raining very steadily today - great day to have my hair done. Maybe it’ll stop in the next hour or so, I don’t have to leave until then.

Wow, rosie, those new beverages sound…ick.

Hope you really feel better today, LiLi.

Taking a brief break from the garden. I’ve planted most of my additional perennials and am about to put in a few more impatiens. Then I’m going to wash the car and then go look for a jacket to go with the dress I’m wearing to the reception tonight.

Got “cheap” gas earlier. It was only $3/gallon. (Everywhere else was between $3.02 and $3.18.)
