Upon ending my MA program - a reflective MMP

For a September show, also get some Hallowe’en, Thanksgiving, and Winter (Christmas and Hannukah) cookie cutters also.

eta: they’d make great tree ornaments

No problem about Isaac’s dish falling apart, FCM – I just hope it didn’t mess up anything else too badly. I appreciate your efforts anyway!

I really have no idea if we’ll show up and buy that pretty pot, Swampy. Although it certainly is tempting – I really like it, too! Definitely get that glaze recipe, FCM; I suspect if you make more of those, they’ll go like hotcakes.

We just had dinner and I’m now going to put my feet up and veg for a while. I’ll need to get back to work later, but frankly, right now I just Don’t Care. And I Don’t Wanna. So there.

I am bad with the Don’t wannas today

we had a leaving lunch for someone who is transfered to Saudi and I ate to much before my meal got there so I need a nap.

I think quitting time will come early today

Well, MamaTigs, looks like I may not be able to salvage Rusty’s bowl either - the big piece on the outside is going to be a challenge to remove, and there are several on the inside that I may not be able to get out at all - I’m not going to mess with them till after the show. But your idiots will get their dishes eventually. Lesson learned - make sure stuff is really dry before firing - 4 hours of preheat isn’t enough.

I also need to figure out the medallions. I fired them on sand so they wouldn’t stick to the shelf. So they stuck to the sand. Only 3 were salvageable. I’m going to go to Clayworks Supply in Baltimore and see what I can use to fire them flat and unstuck. There has to be a simple but grossly expensive holding device available.

I’ve cleaned out the kiln - no damage to the elements as far as I can tell, so that’s good. I’m glad I put a new coat of kiln wash on the bottom shelf - it allowed me to scrape the residual bits off quite easily.

It really is a relaxing hobby. Really. It is. I’m not kidding.

Dammit.

BioRosie has an excellent suggestion also about the holiday stuff. I guaran-day-umm-tee you those medallions will be a hit. You could easily charge upwards to ten bucks for those. How do I know? Well, I have three pre-teenaged great nieces and I’d pay ten bucks apiece if they looked at GreatUnca swampy and squeed. Then again, they know what a sucker I am. Never underestimate the SQUEE power of pre-teen girls! Plus, there are many, many grandparents/greatgrandparents/uncles/great uncles/aunts/great aunts just like me out there! The cookie cutter ideas would be a hit with lots of folks btw. Those white-over-black pieces are da bomb! So, now, with the help of the cool kids you have found your niche… black over white pots, cute pre-teenaged girl medallions and cookie cutters. Ain’t you glad you have us to help out!

It’s always something, isn’t it? Well, no rush on our account; the Idiots don’t care what their kibble comes in as long as it’s on time!

I forgot to mention what happened to Papa Tigs today. He waited till the Big Boss and his entourage cleared one of the wards and then went in because he had some business to attend to in there.

Only problem was, he didn’t realize that the Vice Big Boss was there with his own entourage, too. So he ended up getting his hand shook by Cheney (EWWW!) and lived to tell about it, strangely enough. But I suggested he might want to sterilize himself when he got home, and I’m contemplating how much garlic we have in the house that I can string around my neck…he was quite amused by horrified reaction, fortunately. I suspect that I’m not the only one who reacted that way, even amongst his coworkers.

I cannot wake up today. I’ve been groggy all day, and I just had some coffee and it didn’t do a blessed thing. So I was all set to go jump in the shower to see if maybe that would do the trick – and Papa Tigs turned on the dishwasher. Sigh. So now I have to wait till it’s through the rinse cycle. If I’m still awake by then. I’d just give up and go to bed early, but it’s still daylight outside; at my age it does seem a bit egregious to turn in this early!

EEEWWWWW - PapaTigs got ViceCooties!!! UNCLEAN!! UNCLEAN!!!

Incidentally, if **UncaSwampy ** feels the inclination to indulge his squeeing nieces, he has my email…

Figurin’ I missed the edit opp, I’m postin’ again. Get over it! :stuck_out_tongue:

FCM as I’m sure BioTigs will tell you,as long as Isaac and Rusty AKA the idiots have bowls filled with kibble, they’re willin’ to wait however how long it takes to get gen-yoo-wine one of a kind priceless FCM originals.

Also, do figure out what to do about the medallions, cause, I’m tellin’ ya, there’s a mint to be made there. It’s a pre-teenaged girls dream! Plus, as I said earlier, never forget that pre-teenaged girls have grandparents/greatgrandparents/aunts/great aunts/uncles/ great uncles who will glady shell out bucks to make those pre-teenaged girl dreams come true!*
ETA: PapaTigs must now walk about the streets of Merrylande yellin’ “Unclean! Unclean!”

*[sub]Not that I’d be one of say, those great uncles or anything… (why do we not have a halo smiley?)[/sub]

Ack. I was late for work today. I usually aim to get to work about 5pm, but today my department was having a BBQ so I thought, what the hell, I’ll get to work by 5:30 today. Class doesn’t start until 6 anyway. So a little before 5 I tore myself away from the BBQ and went to go catch the bus. But for some reason the bus I was depending on to get me downtown by 5:30 was either too early (and I missed it) or too late (by more than 15 minutes). It got to the point where I had to walk two blocks, take a different bus, then transfer to another bus in order to get downtown. The problem was that by that stage I was already cutting it quite close. Then we hit the Loop and Jeeeeeeeeeeeesus Christ was the traffic bad. I have never seen such a traffic jam in my life. It took us five minutes to go just one block, and the left turn onto the main street (Michigan Ave) took us at least 15 minutes. We were about five blocks away from the college and it looked like it was going to take us another half-hour, so I got off and ran, getting there 10 minutes late. I burst into the classroom, all ready to apologize to the ONE student I have today.

And I am greeted by the sound of crickets.

Talk about Murphy’s Law!! I miss out on our department BBQ, have to deal with late buses and traffic jams, nearly give myself a heart attack running five blocks, only to find that the one student I teach on Tuesdays is absent. There are no words. None! Gah.

swampy, that’s a cute story. What an awesome L.O.L.

FCM, those medallions are so dinky! I’d definitely beg my dad to buy me one of those.

Hi, gardentraveler!

Productivity update: I still haven’t done the dishes.

Hi everybody!!! (And, on preview…Hi, again, Kat!)

Don’t know if you want to start giving us lack-of-progress updates. swampy is bound to start making you get stuff done.

Temp job sounds like a good idea, swampy. Can’t have too many supplemental/back-up plans. And you never know about the insurance job. Might be OK too. But it’s definitely a good idea to get lots of background info on that job; bad insurance jobs are awful.

Hope the not-throwing-up is the beginning of a calmer phase, LiLi.

Pottery looks really cool, FCM. I love the colors and shapes of the pendants. Hope you find a way to easily make lots of them!

Wow, Drae, I can’t believe they decided on no severance pay for roomie. That sucks big time. Hope you both find reasonable jobs soon.

I went to our first local outdoor concert for a little while and to the library. Been kind of casually surfing and writing this post and surfing and writing. I’d actually forgotten that I hadn’t hit submit yet.

Now I"m really really sleepy, so I should toddle off to bed…

GT

Hey, all.

I like the medallions, too–I can see stringing them together to make a sort of windchime thingy…
I haven’t been here much due to fighting off cicadas and getting ready for summer school. The master bedroom is NOT painted, the porch is NOT sealed, the basement is NOT finished, and here I am.

Start my new job next week.
Congrats, Haze, on your A! that is fantastic. I like the pics, but would like to see a pic of That Guy.
MBG–I think you and I are a part of God’s plot–the one where we meet every moron on the planet before our deaths. I know I’ve met my quota for June already and it’s only the first week…

Off to bed now. Gardened while defending my honor (and other body parts) from the marauding insect plague. There are times they drown out the lawnmower they are so loud. Yuck.

Congratulations, rigs!

MamaTiger, that might make sense. They bark all together, and they start anywhere between one and three-thirty. I do live on a busy main street, with lots of deliveries. If it’s a post office guy or something, I’m suprised they don’t go haywire more often. Canpar, UPS, and the post office all visit every day at different times.
Time for sleep and hoping for no puking tomorrow!

I’m wetoddid.

I boiled the macaroony. I removed it from the heat and put it in the colander to drain. I put it in the bowl to mix with the mayo and spices. I…forgot to run cold water over it beforehand. Maracoony salad is not supposed to be hot.

So I stuck it in the freezer for 10 minutes. (Hey, it worked.)

In other news, the Canadian dollar closed astoundingly high today – $0.94 US. I can almost by goods from the US at par. Woohoo! Seems like it wasn’t that long ago that I was buying stuff off eBay at an exchange rate under $0.70. Now that I think about it, it was only about 3 years ago. Go loonie!

(Apparently this is bad for exports. I’m still not sure I understand that whole economic model, but whatever.)

And it’s freakin’ cold out.

LiLi - “nice” and “cold” do not belong in the same sentence unless you’re describing beer.

what about a sil-pat? it’s a silicone baking sheet that nothing sticks to. I don’t know if it’ll stand up to kiln temps, but there must be someone you can ask. Perhaps there’s a kiln rated equivalent out there somewhere. Or what about spraying some non stick cooking spray on whatever surface you’re plaing the medallions. Again, you’d need something rated for kiln heat, but in the pottery world, there must be a solution of similar design.

Home from work. I was short handed again, 5:30 cashier was in jail. Kids these days. I pulled my back out of whack again, getting a case of water for a L.O.L. I got beer n’ wings at Wally*World, my debit card wouldn’t go through till I smacked the machine. I was famous at my last job for making the checks and credit cards go through by smacking the !@## out of the machine. Glad I still got it.

[color=purple]Haze[/colro], great pics, glad you and Scottish Darling had fun. Sorry about the BBQ.

FCM, sorry abou the idiot bowls. You stuff is getting better and better.

swampy, if you get the Miller job, leave some brew for the Teeming Millions, OK?

BioTigs, at least the Veep didn’t invite PapaTigs to go hunting.

More “from the mouths of babes” department…

Taking Special Teen in to school today, she ends up talking about her Bible class ([aside]these are not religious classes, more Bible learned as “Early Jewish/Hebrew History”[/aside])… mentions how the (also female) teacher tends to dwell on the Sex and Politics of the Bible. And on the Sex. And how the way she (the teacher) dwells on it she thinks the teacher is frustrated… and (and I quote) *“Get yourself a vibrator, already!” *

She’s 14.5… kids these days…

onlitgatory durnken post!! fulll of love and joy and joiyness!!

Seriously, I am so ooooo drunk rit now. People kept on butying shots. And IK have to WROK TOOMORRW!!!

rigs, THat Guy is in one of hte pcitures. gratned, it’s not the best pic of him. He’s the one right behind me with the baseball cap in the third picture I posted.

They are wise. Sounds like sound advice to me.

Hey, I didn’t want you to feel left out from all the colored people. It’s supposed to be Sea something…

I got a guest badge. Yesterday it worked, today it doesn’t. When the guest-badge-person comes in, I’ll go and ask whether they’re now good for only a day or what.
I had to come in early to run the official test on some programs we’d had modified. When I ran the unofficial test in machine A it was fine. Now in machine B it’s SNAFU and then some, hopefully not FUBAR. Looking in machine A it’s almost fine but there is a label there which hadn’t been on the screen when I did the unofficial test. Wonder how long would it take me to learn how to program this shit, I might do a better job with a half-decent book than some of these pros, I swear!
