I just got home with Aimee for the night- she is the sweetest little girl in the world! I gave her a cup of dry kibble which she scarffed right down, she got a drink of water, pottied and is now getting to know my dogs. She is a bit intimidated by the Gordons, which are both well over twice her weight, wants to play with the little dogs… and my younger Papillon is NOT impressed. She has take over one of the stuffies. It may have to continue on her travels with her.
My part in Aimee’s great adventure is now done. She took a piece of my heart with her. She slept the night stretched out on my bed against my legs. She made herself right at home here, and did indeed take the stuffed hedgehog and a chewie with her.
Dogs amaze me. She has had a horrible life to this point and yet she greets everyone with a wagging tail, hopeful eyes and a nuzzle. She is happy, grateful for any bit of attention, intelligent, playful and loving. How anyone could have done this to her is beyond my comprehension.
Aimee and my Gordons-she obviously wasn’t intimidated for long:
Aimee this morning, in my van:
Saying good-bye. Yes, I was crying behind the smile:
Godspeed sweet Aimee. You have touched a lot of lives on your journey. I will never forget you.
PapSett - I told you it would be hard to let her go. She truly personifies what a dog is - loving, gentle, enthusiastic. And as her foster said - she’ll be available on the A&B site in two weeks.
Thanks ScubaQueen! I will certainly do that. What I need to do is make a list of all you guys that made offers and keep it for future reference, since eventually this thread will fade away.
I am deeply touched by all of the responses here. While it may just be a drop in the bucket in the big story, and yes, it’s true that you can’t save them all, we DID manage to save one of them, and I’m sure Aimee thinks it’s a VERY big deal.
PapSett, keep me in mind for the southeast Louisiana/Gulf Coast area.
Do you mind if I hijack your thread for a moment? Feel free to tell me to get the hell out and start my own.
I’m driving from LA to FL this week for my dad’s funeral, and I contacted the transport coordinator and asked if she had a dog that needed to be dropped off anywhere along the way. Well, tonight I’m taking possession of two chihuahuas going all the way to FL with me! I hope 9 hours in the car with two chihuahuas won’t be an epic disaster, but I’m glad to help them get to their new home.
OMG! Inter Alia I LOVE YOU! How awesome is THAT? Please report back on how it goes for you!
And I am so sorry to hear that your dad passed, you are going thru a very tough thing and STILL thought about helping a dog in need… you ROCK! (((hugs)))
Ace is elderly and has never been fixed. The first thing he did was spray my ottoman and rug even though he’d peed outside not 5 minutes before.
Holly was found living outside a dollar store. She has a seizure disorder but it’s totally controlled with medication.
My dog Lucy is not amused, and my cat Bluebelle will be in hiding until the dogs are gone. They’re both rescues themselves, so you’d think they’d have a little more sympathy.
OH!!! Ace and Holly are adorable! Especially Holly, I just want to snorgle her!
Update on Aimee: She is settling into her foster home well, I have been keepping in touch with her foster Mom Roxanne. The stuffed hedgehog I gave her made the trip and Roxanne says she (Aimee) carries it everywhere.
I have officially joined Above & Beyond rescue/transport and am going to be a transport monitor- one of the people the drivers report to.
I am so glad to be giving back a little bit of what my dogs have given me thru the years.
You’re a totally awesome person, PapSett. I am so glad we know each other, even though just on the internet. We wish you much success in helping get those fur-babies adopted!
I handed off Holly and Ace to the rescue director in Florida tonight. I got really attached to Holly, but there’s no way I can afford another pet. She snuggled up against me and slept with me last night. It’s a lot easier letting them go when you only have them for a short leg of a trip!
Heh. That’s kinda the way it happened with me and Bert, my Mainie. I was supposed to just socialize him before transport, but we just hit it off together, so I called ‘em and said, "Y’all ain’t gettin’ him. He staying with me". So I guess I “cat-napped” him!
I’m so glad the transport went well! Thanks for sharing the picture.
I’m transporting for my group, California Dog Rescue and TransPETation, on Friday. If you are ever in need of transport in Northern California, let me know.
