Had a prostatectomy a few months ago, have the inevitable stress incontinence after effects. It’s getting better, doing Kegels, have pads, but any tips from anyone?
I had my surgery almost two years ago. Right now I’m pretty good. At first, I was beside myself, psychologically. I couldn’t move without leaking. I worried that this would be my lot forever, but gradually I gained more control. I started with the briefs, then when I had more confidence switched to the large pads inside my underwear. I now use the smaller pads as a precaution. I can go a long time without needing a bathroom. You may regain complete control. You need to have patience. Recovery takes time. Good luck!
I’m just glad to hear you’re still with us! Hadn’t seen s post from you for a while.
Thanks, both of you! Apart from the damp, all good! Good to hear that slow but steady is the way ahead: I’m the kind of person who thinks instant gratification is too damn slow.
I just returned to the world from a long illness, and I had some incontinence after being on a Foley catheter for over a month. In rehab, I asked the therapists for exercises. In addition to the Kegels, they gave me 3 others.
Pull in your belly muscles for 5 seconds and release. 3 sets of 10.
Lying on your back with your knees bent, squeeze your buttocks together for 5 seconds. 3 sets of 10. You can expand this to doing bridges, raising your butt up.
Sitting, put a ball or cushion between your knees and squeeze it hard for 5 seconds. 3 sets of 10.
Sitting, put a belt or elastic band around your legs just above the knees. Pull your knees apart for 5 seconds. 3 sets of 10.
All these will strengthen your pelvic area, inside and out. I believe it really helped me. Good luck.
Thanks!
