US Midterm Election watch along thread

What he said. She was down to a 55 vote lead at one point. Scary stuff.

I think a mod should give me a gold star for being so restrained in my language.

At the moment it looks like her lead has shrunk to 543 votes. Not clear what % is left.

That info came from here: CO RESULTS

Down to ~550, but only ~200 votes left to count per USA today. Boebert will take it by the skin of her teeth - even with a recount there is no way they are finding a few hundred wrong votes against her. It’s a remarkable achievement in a rather red district, which gives me a very little cheer for basic humanity. But still unfortunately futile. Maybe next time if she continues to be an embarrassing dolt, something I’d be inclined to bet money on.

Mayes is up 236 votes. A recount is going to happen, but I have confidence in the election workers so my confidence level has gone way up.

I’m less bothered by Boebert’s very narrow win than by MTG’s bigger one. Boebert may be crazy but MTG is crazier than anyone, and definitely much louder. She and the pedophile Matt Gaetz just announced a bill that would cut off all aid to Ukraine. It has zero chance of passing, but I struggle with trying to understand what sort of reasoning takes place in whatever passes for a brain in these people’s skulls. What could they possibly be thinking? It can only be the scorched-earth policy that whatever Biden wants, they want the opposite. No thinking required.

…or whatever coin they are getting from Putin.

she has declared herself the winner. no one else has.

Well, she’s never made unsubstantiated claims before, so we should just believe her.

I believe her. Every vote has been counted and she leads by 551. That means that there will be a recount and it would be effectively unprecedented for a recount to reverse that much of a margin.

In other news, the LA Times has projected that Porter has won but no one else has made that call that I have seen.

I think the AP called it for her the night before, and she sent out a “thanks OC” tweet when the lead grew to 6920. I know the campaign staff was going out celebrating Wednesday night.

But it was only on MSN all day yesterday. Then at the 5pm drop last night her lead grew to 8250 and it was pretty much everywhere after that, including NYT. Phew.

porter is just the best! she shows how questions work in a committee meeting.

the best members just ask questions and don’t pontificate for the entire time.

I love Porter. There is serious talk about her taking Feinstein’s seat. Maybe even Feinstein retiring next year and Porter getting appointed so Porter gets the name recognition.

Oh, I am so glad to hear this. It’s a great plan. It elevates one of the Dem’s rising stars, and moves Feinstein along – not a moment too soon.

I’ve seen articles suggesting Adam Schiff may have his eye on that Senate seat as well.

He, too, would make a very fine senator. He has the edge in experience as well. I’d be pleased with either choice.

Porter is a jewel, though.

frisch has called boebert and congratulated her on the win.

219r - 212d now.

Mayes up by 304 after Apache County and Graham County updates. Looks like this is coming down to 2900 Election Day ballots from Maricopa, assuming insignificant remaining ballot cures and provisional ballots to process.

That leaves four races uncalled. The AK race will likely go Dem and the three remaining CA races should go GOP, so 222-213 unless something weird happens.

Which would be the precise inverse of where things stood in the House after the 2020 election. We’ll see if McCarthy is as effective operating with such a thin majority as Pelosi was.

So the Red Wave gained nine House seats and lost (presumably) one Senate seat. Not quite a tsunami.
