US politics from a 2004 perspective

Imagine time-traveling to 2004 and having a conversation with someone well-informed about politics. Assume they believe you; they would be so utterly astounded at the main events of the next 16 years.

First they would be astonished that Obama was the next President. If you talked before his famous 2004 convention speech they would find it completely incredible. After the speech it would be a bit more believable but still very surprising especially the timing.

Then you would tell them that Donald Trump became the next President after beating Hillary Clinton.

Then you would talk about the 2020 primaries. The front-runner is a 78 year old socialist who recently had a heart attack. Another top contender is Mike Bloomberg who in 2004 endorsed George W Bush. Another serious contender is a 37 year old mayor of a small city who is openly gay and married to another man.

No larger point but man it’s been a crazy ride and who knows where it’s going next ?

I was thinking about this just recently, although more from a 2003 standpoint. That the next two presidents after Bush would be a guy named Barack Hussein Obama and…Donald TRUMP. You couldn’t have gotten more than one in a hundred Americans to believe that.
