US Rep Michell Bachman (R-MN)...Batshit Crazy.

Nice.

I mostly blame the Democrats in that district for backing Patty Wetterling to run against her. It was a dumb move.

Wetterling:

  1. had lost this district once before (to Kennedy)
  2. had said, out loud, after losing, that she was too liberal to win the district and wasn’t going to try again
  3. WAS too liberal to win the district
  4. promised Democrats in the district that she wouldn’t run again, allowing them to plan and organize for a run by a conservative Dem who, unlike her, had actually won an election in the district (mayor the major city) This guy before running asked her personally if she would run: if she said yes, he’d step aside and he’d only run if she wasn’t going to.
  5. She then tried her hand in the primary for Senate (again, she has no political experience at all), and it quickly became clear she had no chance
  6. was asked to run as the governor’s running mate
  7. was told by her campaign staff that her cash reserves could only be used on a federal race, not a state race.
  8. So, in order to have a race on which she could spend her money, broke her word about the 8th district and joined in the Dem primary for Congress there
  9. she won, as the presumptive nominee an the more liberal of the two candidates
  10. she preceded to, quite predictably, get beat

The district was conservative yes, but not overwhelmingly so, and certainly not loyally Republican. What they needed was a Dem they were comfortable voting for. Wetterling wasn’t it, and the independent candidate did so well in part because both candidates looked like wacky loons. It was a great opportunity, and the DLC blew it. They have no one to blame but themselves.

The link is now dead… though I assume with the POTUS in the photo there are a few other copies floating around the net…

There was also the incident where she was hiding behind a row of bushes spying on a gay parade. She prayed over a legislator’s desk to try and convert him from homosexuality. I believe she once hit someone in the head with a Bible one time at the state capitol.

I was wondering how long it would take her to become a laughingstock after she took office. (Answer: about two weeks!)

Plus there is her husband floating around out there. For those not in the know, the rabidly anti-homosexual Bachmann’s husband Marcus is what you might call “flamboyant.” He’s a therepist who has endorsed the converting-gays-to-straight nonsense. He’s another scandal just waiting to break.

I also though Wetterling ran a poor campaign against Bachmann. She ignored all the bat-shit crazy stuff Bachmann has done and instead tried to paint Bachmann as a tax increaser. No one was going to buy that. Bachmann will be hard-pressed to hold the seat even in this conservative district next year I think. How many embarrassing stunts can you pull before you become a punch line? This is a red district, but it isn’t Sugarland, Texas either. She’s no shoe-in. She might even have to fend off a challenge from within her own party.

The best plan for Wetterling would have been to rail against Bachman for the long standing bridge issue in Stillwater. It was that stupid bridge that got her that district in the first place and she didn’t get much done in her term there.

I would’ve thought so too, but it’s plain evaporated. I had to get it off someone else’s blog.

Lucky guy, that GWB.

If you’re into frigid psychos, I guess.

I believe DPI in the district was only 46%. Learning Republican, but far from a longshot with the right candidate. We won worse districts that cycle.

Oh, but I am! I’m a Republican, remember?
