USB 2.0 CDRW sans software...

I’ve got a possibly dumb question…

I managed to score a 4 port PCMCIA USB 2.0 card and an Iomega 16x10x40 USB 2.0 CDRW on the cheap. Browneye should be delivering the card today, and the drive tomorrow. I’m excited… I’ve got a 2x external drive that I never use because it’s so slow (and finicky) as to be essentially useless, so I finally might get some use outta that mp3-CD player I bought awhile back.

Anyway, the CDRW is used and it doesn’t come with any of the original software. I’ve looked on Iomega’s site for drivers, and the only thing I’ve found reference to is something called HotBurn, which appears to be their basic burning app. I can apparently buy it for $29.95.

Oh, I’m on Windows ME, by the way.

So will I actually need regular drivers for this thing or not? I vaguely recall reading somewhere that ME has native support for removable drives, but that hasn’t been my experience with my digicam or my old burner. Am I gonna need to spring for Iomega’s (apparently crappy) software, or will something cheaper (like BurnQuick) or slicker (like Nero) do?

Thanks.

I’ve got the same hardware on my comp. I needed to add USB 2 drivers and update Nero to 5.5.9.9 and they all worked fine. Hotburn isn’t to bad if you just want to copy CD’s/Data etc. but it’s no Nero.

E-mail me if you want to talk about how you can get a copy of the iomega software

Thanks for the offer, yojimbo, but I must have got on the good side of Iomega’s tech support… they’re letting me download the full version of HB for free…

…which I’ll run only long enough to let it install whatever drivers it needs to, at which point I’ll switch to Nero.

Cheers.
