User Name "Oh!" moments

Today, I was watching The Seventh Seal for about the eighth time, but probably the first time since I was about 10.

The name of the protagonist (he’s a knight who sort of battles Death, in case you’re wondering, and you really ought to see the movie if you haven’t because about a million pop culture references you always wondered about come from it) is Antonius Block.

Then I was watching a special about beer on the Hitler Channel, which made a passing reference to the Greek god of beer and drinking buddies. His name? Silenus.

Brilliant.

One day the poster whose name I always pronounced as ‘nori-new’ revealed that the username was actually ‘norine-w’.

 :smack:

same

Ummm… still not getting it. What am I missing?

It’s a first name and a last initial, not a completely new original name.

I love the combination of the OP’s username and post title here.

This corner is getting crowded.

…Holy–!

I thought she was just constantly on the edge of leaving us.

You know. No Renew.

NinetyWt posted some diagrams of a few dam models she had ran a while back. I realized that being interested in fluid dynamics meant that her name designated “90 weight”, a viscosity of oil often found in transmissions and gearboxes. I hope I’m not wrong, or I’m going to feel pretty silly. :stuck_out_tongue:

Considering that her sig used to say “queen of lubricants,” I do believe you’re quite right, Santo

Yeah - I saw one such posting, so I know what her name is supposed to be pronounced as…

but still, when I read something she’s posted and I’m mentally vocalizing names, it still comes out as Nori-New

I rented a movie from Netflix a few years ago, and one of the characters introduced himself as CK Dexter Haven.

It’s hard to slip a Simpsons reference past me, but I didn’t get Gangster Octopus until I rewatched The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie show a couple of months ago. Krusty suggested a gangster octopus as a new character to spice up Itchy and Scratchy.

That’d be The Philadelphia Story. Come to think of it, Dex and I probably share an appreciation for Cary Grant.

At first I read Mange Trout

Then it was Man Get Out

Now I understand, it’s French… Mange Tout

I get it.

Yes, yes. 'Tis true. Tied in with being a gearhead in my youth, and my current Hubby is a mechanic. Here is my favorite self-portrait. Heh.

Me, I’m still wondering how much Santo could a Santo Rugger Rugger if a Santo Rugger could Rugger Santos. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m in the nori-new camp too.

And thanks for clearing up Gangsta Octopus Marley23.

I was pleasantly enlightened when it was explained that Der Trihs was “red shirt” backwards, sort of.

Whew!

Well, I can probably answer your question when the Santos finish our club’s 35th anniversary rugby tournament on Labor Day. I’m the co-chair this year… which reminds me, I should go make some phone calls. Gotta get the permits in place to ensure everybody’s favorite social lubricant will be served at the tourny.
