What would be the best way for me to change my user name?
I suppose I could just re-register, but then I’d be counting
as 2 people, and there’s nothing in the faq about closing
your own account.
Would I be able to get a mod to either close this one so
I can start a new one, or just change my name.
I haven’t been reading the SDMB for months but all my
friends are here, and in the interim I started posting
on keenspace under a different name, and I’d like
them to match up.

On the ATMB page with the list of all of the threads, it says this thread was started by Scralden. However, on the actual thread, I see that it is posted by hampster. Weird. Does anyone else see this?

Yes, when you get a name change, it doesn’t change your name on any Forum main page threads you may have started.
Just one of those neato vBulletin quirks.

Why do so many people want to change their names? I guess maybe they didn’t think they’d be staying around long and it didn’t matter, huh?
I changed my name because there were too many lamerinos, and I thought I should be more specific. 
I think I should add some sort of accent marks to my name. You know, so that I could insist that it be pronounced wat-air-jay-two or something.
Actually, when I joined the SDMB I’d been lurking
for a while and really wanted to contribute. All my
life I’ve been nicknamed Hamster (or Hampster) depending
on where you’re from and pronunciation… And at that
time in my life it was driving me up the wall.
There are just too many Chris’ around here
So I wracked my brain for months trying to think of a
username of my own. I finally came up with Scralden.
As in Scralden Haste-
Scrawled in Haste
Get it? witty, no? Explains many of my posts.
Then the boards got slow, it was taking me 5 minutes
to open a thread… stopped reading the SDMB altogether.
I joined the Keenspace message boards as hampster,
I’ve been much happier, it feels more like my real name,
and I’ve got more posts there too.
I never really liked Scralden anyway.
