I’m not sure where to ask this silly question, but here goes;
I sometimes almost introduce or refer to myself, IRL, by my username. I don’t think I’ve actually done so, but I have hesitated.
Anyone else?
Peace,
mangeorge
my “name” in my latin class is the same as my username, if that counts.
No, not really. But thanks for the thought.
I’ll just go to my room now.
I think I’ll weave some baskets.
I make really nice baskets.
Anybody want a basket?
Peace,
mangeorge
A question, mangeorge. Did you used to be boygeorge? I’m joking, of course.
My username incorporates my real name and is a corruption of my nickname, so while I don’t introduce myself by my usename, I am often referred to by it. Boy, was that a run-on sentence or what?
I actually prefer Andy to my real first name, so I often ask people to call me by that name when they have no previous habit of calling me by my real one.
No, I don’t ever have the urge to use my screen name IRL, but a few people that know me and my addiction to the boards call me Silky sometimes.
Actually, my ICQ nick (Kang) is a real nickname and one I readily answer to. I’ve had that one for about twenty years now.
I never really use my online names in real life, but I do sometimes go by a nickname I’ve had since high school, which is similar. (“Dragonass” … it’s a long story behind that one … )
Occasionally folks do call me Ferggie IRL, but Ferg is more usual. I was reduced to the first four letters of my last name my sophomore year of college when my editor started calling me by that name. It got to where there were people I worked with who didn’t even know what my first name was. My editor, in fact, was using initials while making assignments, and couldn’t remember my first name, so instead of A.F., I was written down as Fg. So now I’m an element, it seems.
My more usual Internet nic is Lore, and I do sometimes think of myself by that name, but never IRL introduced myself as Lore.
Recently, in places where the name “Lore” has already been taken, I’ve become Aunt Beast (from A Wrinkle in Time). It’s too soon yet to know if I will ever think of myself as Aunt Beast.
Actually Kniz is sort of a nickname I’ve had for years. So anybody that knows me would quickly pick up on who I was if they got on this board. Its my way of living dangerously.
Friends in RL call me “Sasquatch” from time to time, but that was a nickname of mine before I adopted it as my online name. I have never introduced myself to someone that I haven’t met as “Sasquatch” though…
No, JBirdman12, I was never ‘boygeorge’. Somebody beat me to it.
Mangeorge was a nickname given to me many years ago by an old SO, and adopted by most of our friends. I got used to answering to it, I guess.
Oh, well. Anything but Sue.
Wanna basket?
Peace,
mangeorge
I never have that urge, because my username sounds so damn goofy when spoke aloud.
well actually, yes, IRL, I have been known to answer to my user name. But then again, I’ve also answered to “Mo-Fo”
Y’know, I thought not, but I figured I’d ask anyway.
Not quite…
But today I found myself about 10 seconds away from sending a weekly report to VP, Senior VP, Department Head, and all the Techs with:
Fenris
Supervisor, Tech Support Dept
at the bottom.
Luckily, I caught myself before hitting send.
Fenris
I’ve almost done that myself, Fenris. I’d forgotten about that.
I sign my company emails;
Peace, (instead of thanks)
George (Last name, sometimes)
A little too close.
For some reason the ‘peace’ part annoys some mgmt.
Peace,
mangeorge
Hey, I’d LOVE to introduce myself as Nocturne. Not that I hate my real first name, I think it’s pretty cool.
Then again, I don’t really LOOK like a Nocturne…
I was refered to as TeeGee before I came on the board, because I ate lunch every day at you-know-where.
I’m in the same boat as kniz . . . if any of my friends IRL came to this board they’d spot my usual Maximino nickname.
I refer to myself by my user name all the time.
Well, maybe my coworkers do, more than I.
