Have you ever had the feeling someone you thought was a friend had only bothered to get to know you because you have a S.O. who’s useful in some way? Could be they’re prominent somehow, in an organization or the community, or just plain popular. Either way, let’s just say they’re good people to have in the address book.
And when exactly did the penny finally drop that they didn’t have any interest whatsoever in actually being your friend? Did they only show up when the S.O. was likely to be around, (you’re not worth wasting time on) or was most of their conversation directed at them or about them, or how great they were? (You, of course, are but a mere invisible footnote at the S.O.'s heels)
Did you cease contact with them, and how did your S.O. feel about them too (if they even noticed?)
