Utorrent - "Error: Access is Denied" in Windows 7

Could someone help me with this? It’s driving me absolutely fucking insane.

Since upgrading to Windows 7, UTorrent simply will not download torrents. (These torrents are, of course, of files which I have personal permission to download from their owners. Like if a friend has an album of songs that he recorded that he wants to send to me, so he seeds a .rar file of it and sends me the download link for the torrent, for instance.) Simply put, it will get past 0.1% downloaded, and then the status bar will turn red and I receive the message: “Torrent Error. (File xxxxx) Access is denied.”

Apparently this is a problem, because there are a hell of a lot of forums discussing the same exact thing. I tried the fixes - didn’t help. I tried running UTorrent in compatibility mode - didn’t help. I tried using Unlocker to see if the file was being used by anything - didn’t help. What do I have to do to get this damn thing running so I can download things?

For all the so-called improvement of Windows 7, I’m not seeing any improvement at all, and a lot of stress and hassle.

I figured it out after some tinkering. I checked “Run as Administrator” (in Vista compatibility mode) and it worked. Just thought I’d update this, to help inform all other fellow downloaders of legal torrents.

It seems I read the problem was with uTorrent with Win7 64bit, which one are you running?

32, not 64.

Glad you found a fix, but…

I am running Win 7 64bit and uTorrent works fine without “run as admin”

Maybe something else in the security settings?
