I have kept a beard for the last 10 years and I have always used Wahl hair clippers to trim and shape it. The one drawback for Wahl style clippers is that they are messy and fling hair all over. This is not really a problem for me but in a few months I will be moving in with my fiancé and I doubt she will see this as a positive thing.
I’m wondering if any beard wearing men out there have a reliable, clean, vacuum style beard trimmer that they love?
I tried one of those vacuum dealies once. Forget the brand. It helped some, but not enough so that it was any easier/simpler to clean up. Instead of all the hair everywhere, it was some of the hair everywhere. I still had to mop up hairs and it took just as long anyways.
I’ve learned that it’s just messy business, trimming hair in any stretch. In the warmer months, I run an extension cord out the garage and just do it in the backyard with a handheld mirror. Neighbors probably think I’m a little weird, but whatever. Trimming outside is the way to go imho.
Edit to add: I only trim once a week though, on the weekend. Going outside probably isn’t practical if you’re doing touch-ups daily/often.
Thanks for the info jeff you probably just saved me some money. I think I’ll invest in the Wahl professional series vacuum clippersand keep a really small shop vac under the sink. That way, after I use the clippers I can spiff up the floor and the counter.
Formerly, I would stand in the tub/shower when I did my trimming, before my morning shower. Afterwards, I’d give my face and chest a vigorous rubbing to dislodge any hairs that might have remained. Cleanup was easy: take a shower and all the hair goes down the drain.
I don’t see the difficulty either. My clippers are some off brand that I got at Walgreens. All of the hair goes into the sink. But maybe that’s because I have a really short beard.
I’ve got a Phillips/Norelco that I like a lot. Details matter, however; I was travelling once and forgot it, so I bought another from the same company and didn’t like it nearly as much. I was a bit skeptical that the vacuum would do any good, but it does capture most of the trimmings. Not all, but it definitely helps.
Thanks everyone for the ideas, maybe I will get an extension cord and use the clippers in the shower. Thanks** Conway**, doing a little research, the Norelco was the only other option I was looking at, if it’s not going to be great, I’ll just stay away.
