Vampire Survivors: Fun indie, rogue-lite game with 72,000 "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews on Steam, costs $3

If go looking for brand new content discussion, I’ve found the Steam discussions usually have useful info. The guides are less useful immediately there, but still can help. It has felt like a lot of previous info has been incorporated into the game though. With the grimore and secrets list being added.

That turned out to be the key, @omenran . A new discussion on the Steam board suggested using Leda + the Game Killer arcana.

It turned out that I hadn’t unlocked Leda (she’s “secret”), and after spending 20 minutes finding and killing her to unlock, I started again in the Bone Zone with her and the Game Killer arcana, and 3:25 later the deed was done.

August 18 brought about a new version, apparently the last early access version, if I understood the announcement.

Added was a new character, Queen Sigma. You can buy her (no cost) IF you have completed the Collection board (122 total, I think?). I was short 5, but after researching I was able to unlock all 5 in one run.

Now for a quick aside: out of boredom, I had been doing “gold runs”, usually with Red Death, just to see what I could do. I had managed up to about 125K in Bone Zone, but a Reddit tip had me try Gallo Tower, and I got to 250K.

I then did a Gallo Tower with my new Queen Sigma, and no difficulty getting to 485K. I can see her becoming my “main” more than Red Death, but the kicker is that she can’t be “egged”, so the whole point of getting all that cash ends up getting lost (unless wanting to boost other characters).

HRH Sigma’s stats are really, really good. And she can hold 5-7 Arcana cards.

I think getting eggs for Queen Sigma is next to pointless. Her stats are just so off the charts. And eggs add so little per egg.

And her weapon evolves with Torrona’s box at max.

I’m more curious about the new Tarot, and how it works. I haven’t looked into that yet.

Sounds like the next big update will be the actual release. But in the meantime, I’ve pretty much broke the game.

heh im probably going to get everything else via cheat menu .if I ever get it open lol …

they’ve given it a release date of OCT 20th and a new engine also

I also heard a rumor that 1.0 is going to get a story mode too.

Speaking of story mode - the game’s called “Vampire Survivors,” but you never fight any vampires. Some big bats, sure, and there’s humanoid monsters who could be vampires, but they’re usually visually coded as something else - knights in armor, or wizards, or something like that. You occasionally find coffins, but there’s just new player characters inside. Plus, the point of the game is to survive as long as you can…

The PCs are the vampires, aren’t they?

I have thought that might be the case.

I really don’t understand the new engine thing. Why would you go with a whole new engine right before the official launch? Or is it just the newer version of the same engine that now supports the steam deck or something?

Isn’t the big baddie at the very end that instakills you a vampire? If you manage to live long enough lots more show up.

Because the engine can’t really handle the number of sprites the game puts out. It’s fine for early access, but the creator obviously wants a better experience for the full launch.

No, it’s the grim reaper.

James Stephanie Sterling is writing some of the story material. I haven’t heard much else about the game or played it yet, but I vought a copy because I enjoy their work and because it’ll anger the gamergate types who are now complaining that the game is “woke”.

The game is “woke?” Really?

How so? Because Sterling is involved? (I know you are not making the claim…just curious.)

Sterling is nonbinary, and as we all know, in the minds of chuds, “woke” = “acknowledges the existence of a non-cis-white-male in a way that triggers me and hurts my feefees”.

The team is doing a little advent calendar of new information in the build up to 1.0. Mostly new skins and such but the big one is an endless mode is confirmed:

Game is featured on ArsTechnica:

A new Infinite Mode is one of 3-4 unlockables in the 1.0 version that came out today. If you already have everything prior unlocked, look in the Steam release notes for a 5 step plan to fast-track unlocking the new stuff.
