Read this story if you were starting to feel more optimistic about the human race.
If there was such thing as karma, the sandstone pedestal would’ve fallen over and crushed at least one of those morons. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

Reminds me of the Boy Scout leaders who “‘modified’ goblin Valley” a few years back to, ya know, save lives.
No respect.
I know it’s just an eroded rock, and nature was going to topple the thing eventually, but still, fuck these guys.
It was initially thought the rock formation had fallen on its own when it was found toppled over last week, but then video emerged of a group of fuckwits pushing it over.
I’m not sure what the true appropriate punishment should be, but whatever they get will surely fall well short of it.
I think they should have to take turns standing their holding it in place for as long as it would have taken to naturally erode.
already got a pit thread on it: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=803850
And the drunken idiots who went splashing around in Devils Hole. Bunch of savages in this country.
let me guess- white males, about 16-23 years old.
Stop with the racial profiling!
Err… who gives a fuck, exactly ? Yes, yes, dumb fucks doing dumb fuck things. Still, on my scale of blood pressure raising dumb fuckery, this doesn’t even register.
You’re right. Why the fuck should anyone care? Let’s start filling in the Grand Canyon with kitty litter immediately. Let’s have monster truck rallies at Monument Valley. Let’s turn Yellowstone into the world’s biggest waterpark!
Just because you don’t mind living in someone else’s personal shithole doesn’t mean that I want to.
When you have company over, do you not care if they break your furniture? Do you not care if they leave beer cans strewn both inside and outside your house? Do you not care if someone decides that your mailbox would look better laying flat across your lawn?
Doesn’t raise my blood pressure at all, just makes me wish we lived with better house guests.
I was initially annoyed with these people, who should have known better. The excuse one gave to the person who recorded them was “it’s dangerous”.
But then I considered this: on the local news the previous night, there was a puff piece about that very rock, and that how, even though it is located beyond the fence line, and that people have fallen from that bluff, people still will pose on the rock and it’s very dangerous and be afraid and blahblahblah.
So now I’m wondering if these idiots were acting out in response to that news story and saving us all from ourselves. Seems like a reasonable defense to any charges brought.
There’s an earlier thread on the topic by DCnC.
Seems to me that’s the whole point of having a fence. If people climb over the fence at the lion enclosure at the zoo, do we blame the lions for mauling them?
Actually NDP beat me by about 12 hours.
But is it a Pit thread? This thread is for pitting the asshats who destroyed Duckbill Rock.
[And I see that it is. Maybe the mods can combine our threads.]
Ask Harambe.
Let’s fill in les Gorges du Verdon with kitty litter.
Nobody was proposing before that incident that Harambe be shot just in case someone fell into the enclosure.
Nah, nothing reasonable about self-appointed safety vigilantes. Even assuming their intentions were pure, which I’m kinda suspicious about anyway.
