Threadshitting – basically, shitting on a discussion, by belittling the topic or the people discussing it. It typically takes the form of a dismissive comment, like “Who cares?” or “This is stupid!” or similar. The implication of the threadshitter is that discussion of such a topic is beneath them, and should be beneath everybody else. If you really do think that a discussion is inane or pointless, the appropriate thing to do is to not participate in it. And, of course, if you see someone threadshitting, please do not respond with personal insults or accusations: instead, REPORT the post to a Moderator.

Admittedly, in retrospect we have not bee handling this correctly up to this point. As recommended I’ve reported this to the moderator so now we can let it drop.

The level at which something is considered threadshitting or trolling are justifiably much higher in the Pit. I’d be surprised if a moderator did anything about it.

However, we could handle it ourselves by simply not engaging the obvious troll.

We just want you to be honest that you don’t care if vandals destroy other people’s stuff. You’ve said it’s OK to destroy things if you leave the pieces there. Do you feel the same way if people destroy you’re stuff as long as they leave the broken pieces?

I don’t care if a rock formation gets knocked over. Rocks, remember? Was there an endangered species living in that rock formation? Was the cure for cancer there? Did an actual human being create that formation, and the destruction of it harmed it?

So, anytime you go into a Pit thread, and belittle the people in it, I should contact a moderator in order for you to get warned for ‘thread shitting’?
