Vandals topple "Duckbill" rock

They’re punishing a rock formation because some damn fool broke his leg goofing around on it? Do they think the rocks are going to somehow learn a lesson from that or be sorry?

Yeah, morons.

They’re rock formation vigilantes. Next they’re going after that boulder that fell on James Franco.

As amazing as it may seem to your limited intellect…I was not talking to you, and the gesture was not made in your direction.

It was a quip to Robot Arm (not at him but to him building off what he said to you.

You’re too stupid to figure out rhetorical context.

That’s all it takes, really. Pressure, and time.

That and a dumb goddamn poster.

You know, we teach pre-school students “If it is not yours, don’t destroy it.” So I guess we know where you place on the mental developmental scale.

I guess

Do we? I wasn’t aware that rocks were destroyed. I’m pretty sure the rocks are still there.

But the formation isn’t. If someone smashes your laptop is that ok since all the pieces are there?

How 'bout this rule: If it’s not yours don’t touch it without permission. You have a problem with that?

No i don’t. But I expect you to float over whatever sidewalk or street you walk on tomorrow. After all, you are touching it, right?

Or maybe you want to change your rule?

Normally I don’t do this, but I think a post in another thread might help understand manson’s problem:

Your lack of empathy for others is why you are having trouble understanding why toppling this rock formation is a bad thing. And it is why you are coming off as a complete asshole.

It is kinda necessary to get along with others to function in this world.

That’s awesome. You think I should have empathy for a rock. Rocks are not human beings. Is it necessary to get along with rocks to function in this world?

Thanks for sharing though. I won’t even call you BigTard like others on this board do, since I know you are trying

Hey, how about that **manson **chap. Ain’t he a charming little troll. Cares so little about something that he can’t shut up about it.
Whilst all other dopers get their panties in a twist about something so insignificant as a rock he’s all about the real issues like some kids living in trash heaps somewhere. You know, important stuff.

Give him succinct and well-reasoned arguments will you k9bfriender?
Attempt an offer of good-faith discussion will you faithfool?
Piffle! It is for naught! He is above us all!
Why, he wouldn’t even stoop to call **Big T **that name that he just called him.

So, yeah, fuck ‘im.
Anyhoo, before that dipshit hijacked this thread that he finds so trivial, I was curious to come back just to see whether the culprits had been apprehended, because this kind of story does interest me.
Sure, I like the feeling of righteous indignation and the smug satisfaction of knowing when someone who isn’t me has been punished for some arseholish action that wasn’t my own.
But the aspect of this kind of story that really interests me is whether and when the culprits will be brought to a realization that something they saw as insignificant actually had meaning to many others and that what was to them just a moment of fun actually has greater ramifications and consequences. Perhaps it’s because I might so easily have been one of those little shits under different circumstances.

You had me until this! it’s a rock, get over it!

I can’t! It’s gone!

No, because the sidewalk was put there specifically for me (and everyone else) to walk on.
Try again.

Oh** manson**, the empathy is for the people who are no longer able to enjoy the rock formation. But you knew that, didn’t you.

Was it the rock you live under? It falling on your head would explain why you are coming off as brain damaged.

As pointed before there is a significant loss of revenue when a natural formation is destroyed. That revenue is referring to humans that benefit from the tourists coming to see the formation. There is no empathy for that rock. It was part of a national park that was being protected and while the issue is not hugely important, it is important enough to punish the perpetrators appropriately.

It is then not strange to realize that you only demonstrate how broken your emphatic system is, as your sorry ideology must willfully ignore not only the park attendants but the ones that offer private concessions close by. And that shows how stupid your reply to me in GD was anyhow.

I recall reading a phrasing l liked (maybe it was here on the Dope somewhere).

Public property is not your property. Public property is everybody ELSES property.

Yes, it is also “yours”. But your fraction of it is so small that what the fuck you think should be done to/with it doesn’t amount to shit “rights” wise (elections and the like to make those decisions in the first place are a different thing obviously).

Also:

We don’t own the land. We are borrowing it from our descendants.

I have much greater empathy for the rock than I do manson. One contributes to the greater beauty and good of the world, or did. Manson, OTOH…
