.vbs extensions

This post will be scanty on information, so please persevere.

I’ve no idea what has happened, but all .jpg files have mysteriously turned into .vbs extensions.

Someone in my house has obviosly downloaded something to cause this. They deny all knowledge, of course.

Anyway I cannot permanently delete the buggers. Some of the image files have disappeared completely leaving only the .vbs
“mirror” with no way that I know of to retrieve the original
files.

I’ve tried " Find" to no avail.

Mp3 files also have these “mirrors” which are undeletable as well.

Help me Mr. Wizard. Please.

The program that I think was downloaded is called Interfax.

Sounds very much like a virus, e.g. this one.

if you don’t have any virus guard software installed, go to www.antivirus.com and do their ‘housecall’ online virus scan (it’s in the ‘free tools’ section; that should clean your machine of any existing viruses, but it’s a one-off process (although you can do it as often as you like) and won’t protect you against future threats as they happen.

There’s a reasonably good free virus guard available at www.grisoft.com

BINGO!

That’s the fellow.

Many thanks. The teeming many come through again.
