Long story short, FIOS goes out frequently, they don’t have an actual customer service number, you have to act like you want to buy it to talk to a live person then get switched to CS. So they’re avoiding their customers. They suck, without question.
Reliability and responsive customer service are very important, for my wife does work from home.
Crap! You’re right, of course. I’m in the DC area. Comcast is the cable provider, but I’m loathe to use them because they suck, as well. Besides, I’m a DirecTV user and I’m not sure if getting their broadband without bundling in other stuff I want is the way to go. However, if they are the clear cut best choice, I’ll certainly consider them.
I’m not aware of all the possibilities, hence the question. I apologize for not having narrowed this down to folks in the DC area. I can’t figure out, even after looking in the Yellow Pages, who the major players are. I know there’s Quest, AT&T, Earthlink, etc., but I can’t seem to find a comprehensive list that’s not a commercial site trying to steer me into plans.
Well, yeah. At least with plain old Verizon, I wasn’t unsatisfied. But those red shirt people came around and told me “Hey, we’re installing FIOS in your neighborhood. Would you like to get it for the same price as you’re already paying?” Idiotically, I took the bait.
I have Verizon’s plain vanilla DSL and refuse to switch to FIOS. They’ve done everything in their power to get me to switch - they’ve called, mailed, and come knocking on my door. I did not take the bait. Instead I contemplated putting a trap door in the floor of my porch that leads down to a lion pit.
They were so intent on switching me to FIOS that they made it nearly impossible to get my landline moved when I moved last summer. “You need your landline hooked up? Let me transfer you to a FIOS salesperson!” “Your landline is still not working? Please hold while we try to sell you FIOS!” “You’re totally happy with your DSL? Well switch to FIOS and your whole life will be sunshine and rainbows and you’ll crap mint chocolate chip icecream!”
I will not switch to FIOS and Verizon can go to hell.
I like my DSL. It is inexpensive, fast enough for me, and reliable. It has never gone out that I can remember in about three years (unless you count the three - count 'em THREE - weeks it took them to get it up and running at the new house when I moved, clueless ratbastards). I only regret that it is through Verizon.
Huh. I just switched to FIOS. So far it’s been great. 20 down/5 up. Picture quality is a lot better than with Comcast.
Only problem is that with 500 damn channels, I can’t find where anything is. I spent 20 minutes last night looking for the SciFi Channel and I still don’t know where it is. I’m hoping I can hide some of the more useless channels.
