Vermont Dopefest Report

Uh, I’m still kinda new 'round these parts, but I thought it might be nice to write up a little um, thing, about what we, uh, did. Yeah. It was cool to meet some Dopes. Dopers.

There was dinner and concert and lunch and kite-flying, but I couldn’t actually go to any of that, so I’ll just tell you about the final dinner and others can chime in ad libitum.

I thought we were meeting at 5:00 on Saturday at Halvorson’s, but I was out all day hiking and didn’t get back to town until 5:15. Rush rush rush, I show up at the restaurant at 5:40 and realize the only person whose real name I know is Eonwe, but I think he made the reservation, so it’s okay.

Yersinia: I’m here to meet a group of people. I think the reservation might be under ********.
Waitress: [puzzled]
Yersinia: Uh, it’s a group of about eight.
Waitress: Adams?
Yersinia: [lightbulb!] Yeah, probably Adams.
Waitress: The reservation’s for 6:00.
Yersinia: Okay, I’ll come back.

So I go to Borders, pester the clerks for a bathroom token  then browse for a while.

Yersinia: Hi, I’m here to meet the Adams party.
Different Waitress: [puzzled]
Yersinia: Uh, it’s a group of about eight.
Different Waitress: Is that them? [points]
Yersinia: Actually, I’ve never met any of them before so I don’t know what they look like.

But I walked over and andygirl said, “Are you a Doper?” so I joined the party. We played a 15/16 game with the tables, or maybe it was tangrams, but eventually room was made for all. We mostly drank beer and ate cheeseburgers, but other libations and comestibles were enjoyed. Conversation was light and witty, moving on to more serious topics only with the removal of the tablecloth and the arrival of the port. The merits of Moxie soda were debated. Wonko and Little Nemo, I hope you remembered to stop at Hannaford on your ways out of town! Snapshooters tooks snapshots of each other snapshotting.

I met Robot Arm, Wonko the Sane, Little Nemo, Eonwe, andygirl, and two friends of hers whose names I have rudely forgotten.

After dinner, Eonwe and I led a tour down Church Street. We pestered Swiddles at her place of employment until she agreed to meet us after work at Vermont Pub and Brewery. The intervening hour was spent huddled in the frosty air in front of Ben and Jerry’s Scoop Shop, eating our frozen confections and talking about good pranks. B & J’s needs more seats inside! Everybody was very nice and let me tell the joke about the duck who wants some grapes, because Robot Arm hadn’t heard it yet. I love telling that joke.

At 9:00 we went to Pub and Brewery to meet Swiddles. We drank some more beer, ate some more fried food, took more recursive pictures. Conversation was alternately sprightly and thoughtful. As the earth continued its majestic diurnal barbecue roll, we drifted apart to our sundry homes.

Swiddles once told me she was reluctant to reveal the name of her place of employment. She had reason to be so. Having wormed the secret from her earlier this year, I abused her trust by leading not one but two seperate expeditions to her workplace. I’m sure it was everything she feared it would be; we asked for her by name, we took pictures, we hung out in front of the store, we wondered through the prono section making rude comments, etc. But Swiddles assured us later, that high as we had set the bar, we were not the strangest customers she had that day. At least I know she can’t retaliate in kind; we have armed guards where I work.

All in all, I’d pronounce the Green Mountain Dope Fest a smashing success. It was a fine day and I was glad to meet everyone who was there.

PS to Yersinia; we had originally planned to meet at 5:00 pm. However, when we gathered, we found out that Halvorson’s didn’t start serving until 6:00, so this is when we made our reservations.

Yersinia, you told the duck/grape joke very well, the voices and facial expressions were perfect. I’ll subject you to the man and his monkey in a bar joke next dopefest. I did find some moxie in alburg(h) this morning. I havn’t tried it yet, but I’m looking forward to it.

What are they putting in the Burlington water supply that makes the women so cute anyway?

You think it’s the water, Wonko? I was guessing some sort of genetically-based homing instinct.

Well, I kinda branched out on my own on Sunday. I took the ferry across the lake and spent the day up at Lake Placid. I’ve always wanted to ride a bobsled. And after going to the top of that tower I can tell you with absolute certainty that ski-jumpers are insane.

But I just got home at half-past midnight and I am one tired jamoke. It was a pleasure to see you all.

[sub]Someone remind me later to post the details of the pre-'fest bondage incident.[/sub]

we also cannot forget to let Ukulele Ike know that those of us who saw Swiddles on Friday night were able to witness first-hand the power of hooch-boots! Unfortunately we did not get a photograph, but Swiddles did say she might take a picture of the infamous footwear for all to see.

I was very dissapointed by missing that…

I would also like to say that aside from the monkey walking into a bar, and the duck walking into a bar which have already been mentioned, we also were blessed with the mushroom and the bar, the ham sandwich and the bar, and of course, Descartes and the bar. Yes, Dopers of incredible fortitude sat through wave upon wave of “bar” jokes, much to our enjoyment (at least mine). I only say fortitude becuase you can only laugh so much, you know?

And boy do I know how to screw with someone whose computer I’m servicing!

Also, andygirl, I hope your accomidations (read: sleeping bag on the floor) were not too uncomfortable. Our one guest room was being used at that particular time. And I must say, we definitely shared a moment at the concert on Friday that I will remember for a long while (I’ll leave it up to the rest of you to guess what that was. I will tell you that it was in the middle of a crowded concert  ).

'Twas a pleasure all.

I’m still in recovery.

So, in brief:

Friday night I got to Burlington much later than planned becuase my ride was just a wee bit unreliable. I found Papa Franks, ran across the highway, and after much searching, found Wonko, Nemo, and Eonwe. Yea, we verily consumed seafood ravioli.

Post dinner, Eonwe and I went to the Tenacious D concert. The warmup band was entitled “The Mouldy Peaches” and their hit song was entitled “Who’s got the crack.” They were appallingly awful, but there were lots of cute people so Enowe and I amused ourselves.

Post-concert, we ran into Swiddles, who had been experiencing the blessed idolatry of Tenacious D. We talked briefly and caught a glimpse of the hooch boots, and then I crashed at Eonwe’s house.

Saturday, Eonwe dropped me off with Wonko and we flew kites in the park. Nemo met us there. During the course of the afternoon we crashed kites, visited Swiddle’s work place and commented on the porn section, and amused ourselves greatly. In one memorable kite flying attempted I managed to take Wonko’s glasses off of his face with the kite while not injuring him.

We then went to Halversons, where we met up with my friends Sean and Megan, Yersinia, Robot Arm, and Eonwe. We then piss off the waitress and generally make merry.

Ben and Jerrys and more drinking followed, during which Swiddles joined us.

It was a good time.

First of all, I’d like to apologize for not being more present during a Dopefest in my own city. In my own defense, it was an insanely busy weekend, and I had no computer.

A few interesting follow-ups: [ul] [li] No one at work even mentioned you guys coming in, either time. This is comforting and desturbing, as I’d hope they would tell me if strange people are taking pictures of my polaroid. Feh. [] TicketGuy went to the D show with a blonde chick. He then came into the store Sunday night with the same blonde chick. I went into Recycle North today to buy a headboard for my bed, and guess who waited on me? Blonde chick. Wierd. But she was very nice, and I don’t hate her. Much. [] TicketGuy told me he was hanging out with JB after the show. Damn me and my tendancies to leave a venue once the show is over! KG tried picking up TicketGuy’s friend. ::sigh:: Getting my friend, the one who had a breakup Saturday, drunk was appallingly easy. Retronome at Metronome and then some good ole’ fashioned drunken Karaoke at JP’s. Goodness that place is skeezy. Sorry I couldn’t stay longer, but she needed me to sing the soprano harmony on “Chain of Fools.” [/ul][/li]
viva le iBrooke!

Andygirl’s kite flying on Saturday was so accurate, she removed my glasses from my head with the kite string without causing any discomfort. I think she was just -saying- she’s never flown a stunt kite before…

On the coincidence front- I saw a woman with a great dane and some smaller dog on friday in Winooski, while walking around waiting for 6:30 to roll around. The next day, I saw her just down the street from Halverson’s with the same dogs. Those dogs are spying on me…

Has anyone posted pictures?

Nemo,

I have yet to get mine developed… I only used half the roll of film, and I don’t want to waste it… maybe I’ll just go out and take 15 pictures of my front porch or something like that… soon, soon. But Wonko, you had a digital camera, didn’t you? No excuses from you.

Okay, I’ll give you a exemption until the end of November; you can finish the roll at the Boston meeting and post them all together.

So, Wonko, what’s your excuse? No one’s going to believe how good looking the women were at this meeting unless we show them proof. We need those pictures.

Dammit I wanna go to a Dopefest and my sister lives in Burlington!

Can I still attend if I’m married and my wife fails to see just why the hell I spend so much time hanging out here?

Wow… if that doesn’t make me feel like a small tool with no life…

Pessor,

Always happy to break up otherwise successful relationships here at the SDMB.

But hey, come to a dopefest! In this thread we’re planning one in November.

and Nemo, thank you for the dispensation from my requirement to post expediently. I humbly bow to your magnanimous spirit and benevolent will.
