Hello there. I live in Vt, and was wondering if any other dopers do. I think SwimmingRiddles also lives in Vt. I have lived in Alburgh, Swanton, Burlington, and South Burlington.
Just curious.
peace,
JB
Not from Vermont, but originally from Sherbrooke, Quebec. Close enough?
Actually, just a short drive from Swanton. We’re right near the border.
I go to Palmer Sands Beach once in a while, not so much as before half of it became a state park. One thing I love about Vermont is the massive roast beef grinders you can get at the Alburgh General Store. Half for lunch and half for supper, yummy. I also listen to 99.9 The Buzz out of Burlington as there are no good radio stations in Montreal.
I’m in Hanover, NH during the school year. Just a half mile away.
Wow!! Imagine another doper knowing the pleasure which is roast beef grinders from the Alburgh General Store. Actually, they originated at the Alburgh Village store, but when that closed a couple of years ago the deli moved next good to the general store.
What I like about Montreal is the drinking age
peace,
JB
I live in Massachusetts. Not too far away.
I live in Burlington, VT.
Burlington? Go Seahorses!
I’m considering the possibility of moving to Vermont, because of the non-restrictive laws, especially the ones concerning guns. You gotta love any state that respects the Constitution.
Don’t get me started. If this were GD, I’d rattle off a litany. Check your e-mail.
Dude, it’s spelled Alburg. No “h”. I know this because the first 18 years of my young life were spent in the next town south, the much more attractive burg of North Hero.
AND I worked at the Buzz for two years. You may have heard my Buzz on the Streets and not have known that the voice on the radio would some day be the clever board presence known as Swiddles. Sorta. I even dated a DJ.
Bah. While I didn’t go to BHS, I’ve always thought the Seahorses were kinda a silly mascot. I mean, come on. What is a SEAHORSE gonna do to you? Distract you with its cute ille bittle facey wacey?
Joe, if you move here, be prepared. We’re a VERY liberal state. I have no idea what the gun laws are, but the political climate here is pretty strained. Anyone been through the NE Kingdom recently? More Take Back Vermont signs on decrepid buildings then I’ve seen in quite some time. Morons. If you don’t believe me, click here and preview the file called “jeffs.jpg.” A friend of mine snaped that one in the NE Kingdom. Sheesh.
This is fun. It’s like old home day.
Another Vermonter here. Yeah there are no gun control laws, but it’s pretty liberal here otherwise. Liberal in the modern sense, I mean.
Hey, bibliophage, how about a cc for me?
I grew up, not in Vermont, but right next door in Plattsburgh, NY. In fact, I’m up here visiting family right now. Anyone up for a Green Mountain Dopefest?
Another Vermonter here too. I know this is kind of a late showing, but I’ve just got to show my pride!
Oh, first from Jericho, and currently from Burlington, VT.
Little Nemo, I think a Green Mountain Dopefest is certainly in order… hm, what’s that I smell… ah, UVM is starting up again soon, and their Dopefest is in full swing!
If we’re doing a dopefest, we need to get moving. I’ll be heading home in a few days.

How many days is “a few”? I’ve got this camping trip this weekend from Thursday through Sunday, and then I’ve got a business trip to Kansas City on Tuesday through Sunday. BTW, where is home?

Joe, if you want to move to a state that hardly has any gun laws, but is not liberal like Vt, come to NH. We need you here to help us out vote the Massholes.
We do have carry permits, but they are totally easy to get ($10 for 4 years, no test or training), and the only restricion is not in a courtroom or surrounding area. We also have open carry, class 3, private sales, etc. and more FFL’s per capita than most states.
Also no state income tax and no sales tax except on a few specific things.
Our motto isn’t “Live Free Or Die” for nothing! Actually the whole saying is, “Live free or die, death is not the worst of evils”.
I’d be willing to make the trek to Vermont for a dopefest. If Swiddles and Andygirl can make it to Manhattan (the place) I figure I can drive up there. Keep me updated!
Vermonter by birth only (Brattleboro), but have always felt more of a connection with it than my “native” state next door. Especially since it was the first independent republic, long before Texas!
Been through a couple of times but only in passing; one of these days I’ll have to come up and visit for a little longer.
