Veronica Mars 2.7: Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner

Ultracreepy parents! Reminded me of home. But it’s ok; I’m reasonably well-adjusted now.

So, does anybody think Duncan didn’t do Kendall? It would be Very Wrong, but he’s 18 and she’s naked Charisma Carpenter.

This show has so many twists and turns. What’s in the note that Duncan hid from Veronica? What’s up with Sheriff Lamb?

I don’t think Duncan and Kendall did it - He may have been tempted, but wouldn’t hurt Veronica.
Gracie is Meg’s kid sister, right?
The note Duncan found - maybe it was a love letter he’d written to her last year, but since we were meant to see it and he was being so ominous about it, it’ll probably turn out to have something to do with the bus crash
Does Veronica still have feelings for Logan?
why did (Steve Guttenberg) ask Keith to take the position as Chief of Police - has Neptune ever had one of those before? I bet there’s going to be a major confrontation between the Mayor and Lamb
but Lamb showed he’s got a mensch inside hm somewhere - obviously as a child, he was mistreated by his parents - possibly even locked in a cubbyhole like Gracie - that’s why he let Veronica and Duncan go.
and I’m beginning to think the little pencil sketchs in the opening credits do mean something

Interesting episode. I think it’s my favorite of the season so far. Really creepy and some cool twists. Mr. Fuller hitting on V (“come smoke a J and fool around”) in the exact same tone of voice as the rest of his little speach was funny but disturbing.

Yeah, Grace is Meg’s youngest sister (at one point V picks up a picture case that holds one photo each of Meg, Lizzie, and Grace). They’ve had a lot of call backs to season 1 this year, like Abel, his daughter and Wiedman last week, and now Sabrina Fuller’s mother (who is the school superintendent or something like that), and Madison Sinclair in this episode. I like it. It gives a real sense of these people actually existing.

Dick hitting on his step-mom was wrong. But funny. And a very Dick sort of thing to do.

And I don’t know what’s up with Duncan, or if he did anything with Kendall, but I have a feeling his and Veronica’s relationship is doomed. Between Kendall and the letter, and both of them possibly having feelings for their exes, I just don’t see this ending well.

Neptune is a county seat, but they only have a sheriff’s department and a county supervisor, not a chief of police and mayor. Woody Goodman was just elected County Supervisor, an office which the newscaster said was “traditionally referred to as the Mayor of Neptune” but is technically not a mayor. Apparently Neptune was never incorporated as an official city, but is merely the county seat. That’s why Goodman was talking about incorporating the wealthier area so it would officially be a city. It would then require a police chief, collect taxes, etc. That way Keith could be police chief but Lamb would still be county sheriff.

It makes me sad that so few people are watching this show. This was a great episode. Say that in the Tony the Tiger voice and you’ll get an idea how much I liked it.

Though I did guess early that it was Meg’s family, just from remembering the younger girl’s fear over the parents finding Meg’s files and emails.

I think UPN realizes that they are on to something here. With guest spots from Joss Wheadon (and I think Kevin Smith), strong critical acclaim, plus the fact that they are keeping the show for (at least) a second season, even though the ratings for the first sucked, well… It all makes me think that they have a plan that isn’ttrying to be first or even 50th show. Word of mouth does work. The first season should soon be out on DVD and will probably help. If they have the patience, it might turn into a hit one of these days.
The only thing I don’t understand is why they put it against Lost. Why not E.R. or some other crap that jumped the shark ages ago.

The first season is out on DVD; that’s how I got caught up. I was a little irritated that they released it right after the new season started, since it left me to choose between waiting for the season two DVDs or skip the first three episodes so that I could watch it on UPN every week. I decided that I couldn’t wait, so I read the recaps on TWoP and dove right in on season two.

I love this show.

This is a show that I usually half-watch while doing the dishes or working on the computer, but it is pretty good for that.

Highlights for me: V. doing the “Dude” speech from The Big Lebowski. I also think that Steve Guttenberg has had some majorly awful plastic surgery. His facelift looks like a plastic mask. I also like how the show isn’t afraid to have genuinely twisted/pathologic/flawed characters that are still in high school. But at least once an episode, someone does something that makes me wonder why I’m watching a show about high-schoolers. I think to have a broader range, they still need to tone down more of the “like omigod I am so crushing on that boy” tone even though they manage to avoid it mostly. That and Veronica is a nosy and often manipulative bitch – she reminds me of the next door neighbor from Bewitched a lot of the time.
