Vh-1 Just Fucking Stop It. Now

So I flip on VH-1, not on the off chance that God forbid, they would actually be playing music videos, but just to see what they are playing instead of music videos.

Well, since Dad got the HBO package for cable when you change the channel, it takes a few seconds for the picture to come up, but you do get the sound.

So… I hear the opening guitar riff from G N’ R’s Welcome To The Jungle and I simultaneously have 2 thoughts:

  1. COOL!!! I haven’t seen that video in a damn long time. I love it even though it has fairly crappy editing.

  2. No, it’s some kind of evil trick. VH-1 NEVER plays videos anymore.

And the answer is…

/Alex Trebek/

A little bit of both of my thoughts actually.

'Cause what VH-1 did was show how you could set a montage of scenes from The Godfather to Welcome To The Jungle and it still makes a pretty cool video.

But the downside is that the “video” is being used to promote the fact that VH-1 is having their premiere showing of The Godfather this weekend.

Now, I know I had a rant thread on this before, but I’ll delve back into it for a bit, if you’ll allow me.

Showing movies like Valley Girl, UHF I can understand those, hell I can even understand showing 9 1/2 Weeks to a point.

But The Godfather??!!?!? Not only is there nothing even resmbling pop music in the film, what music there is either jazz, jazz or well, jazz. And I can count on one hand the number of jazz videos that VH-1 has show and all one of them were Candy Dulfer, and even that was a pop song.
Sheesh.:smack: :smack: :smack:

Oh, I happened to catch a few minutes of Cool As Ice and I can’t understand how ANY of the actors could read their lines with a straight face, unless maybe they were being threatened with cattle prods.

They already show The Godfathers I and II uncut on TNN every other month. Does Viacom have to put the thing on every one of their networks? (Maybe not. They’ll need happy, humorous, child-friendly “mobsters” for Nickelodeon.)

[old man]Ah, fer the good old days. When MTV played music, and VH-1 played videos, and AMC actually showed classic American movies, and the Travel Channel actually moved around your room, and the Food Network was edible…[/old man]

yeah, rule of thumb is this: if it’s on one Viacom channel, sooner or later it’ll be on all of them.

Saw the commercial, had the same reaction.

So VH-1 is turning into TNN-2.

And Nick has a kids version of Robot Wars. Like the TNN version wasn’t dumb enough.

What’s the big deal? VH-1 has occasionally shown movies for as far back as I can remember (which, I do believe, is the entire lifespan of the station.) Not to mention the commercial was unbelievably cool, even to a person who stopped liking GnR a decade ago. Slightly older people who haven’t seen the movie in awhile will probably check it out as well as some younger people who have never seen it. Plus VH-1 is pretty good about not over-editing or having commercials every 5 minutes.

Yes, but the movies they used to show were at least vaguely related to pop/rock music, even if it was something horrible like Eddie & The Cruisers II: Eddie Lives.

*The Godfather * is nothing like that.

I actually really liked the commercial, I was just pissed that it wasn’t the actual G N’ R video and how the music was used, ie, how it was manipulated.

TNN does not show them uncut. They cut all over the place. The producer waking up in bed with the horse head, Michael’s wedding night in Sicily, a whole lot of the revenge against the heads of the other familys violence, and on and on.

I know they say they don’t cut but it is one big fat lie.

WSL, you did intend this for the Pit, right? I hope its being in the Café isn’t intentional because you have been warned about the language. I suggest you email a Mod and politely ask them to move your OP so you don’t risk getting banned.

Or at least ask them to clean up the thread title.
