Vick's An Eagle! Hide your beagle!

Money reveals it, yes. Then it’s taken away! I think that’s the best part of his punshment. Hit him in the wallet.

Really, I tend to think quite the opposite. Most people are afforded second chances and opportunities to make amends.

Huh? You do know that Vick, like McNabb, is a black guy, right?

(That’s right, I went there – ooh, burn!)

I don’t usually agree with him but he’s right. And the talk of “taking away his livelihood” by banning him from football is absolutely ridiculous. The man is richer than any of us. He lives like a fucking emperor with all the riches he has, from tossing a ball around on a field. Let’s not pretend like he’s going to be out on the street holding a tin cup if they kick him out of the NFL. I don’t have any sympathy for him and I hope he gets eaten by dogs and then he burns in hell for the rest of eternity with hot oil dripping on his balls.

True. I should clarify. Seconds chances certainly DO happen, but to this extent? If I was some CFO of a major drug company and I did the same thing, I wouldn’t expect my job back at the same level in the same field. No, he’s definitely not at the same level physically or salary-wise, but he’s still an NFL Pro Quarterback for the love of laces out.

Part of me thinks Vick is SOOO lucky to get this kind of second chance, he shouldn’t even smile after a touchdown. Another part of me thinks any Eagle touchdown is the best kind of touchdown.

Still think we oughta hide Swoop…

I don’t get it - can you explain this one?

The Bengals/Raiders comment? Both teams have had more than their share of player arrests and general misconduct. The road game comment? Philly fans will have some time to get used to having a dog torturer/killer on the team, but every time Vick goes someplace else, the coverage will start up all over again. The Cleveland comment? Look up “Dawg Pound” sometime.

What IS he going to be doing then?

Football is likely all he’s good at, through a combination of his own fault and the establishment’s.

I’m well aware of it, having been in it several times :stuck_out_tongue:

I didn’t make the connection. The Browns played the Eagles last year, so I thought there was some sort of media circus reference about something that happened that I was missing.

Well, he’s well-connected in the thug world. And his name is bankable in rap now that he has bona fide prison time.

How long? 3 months? 6 months? a year? 2 years?

Seems kind of arbitrary

Vick is playing QB in practice.

I never had a specific amount of time in mind. If I were Roger Goodell and in a good mood, I probably would have told him, “We’ll help you find a job where you can contribute to society, maybe mentoring kids, and assuming you do well and keep to the conditions of your parole, you can apply for reinstatement after this season is over.”

With this whole idea that Vick’s done his time and expressed his remorse, I think you have keep in mind the circumstances that got him to this point. Aside from the fact that he financed and was involved in a dogfighting operation for (I think) the entirety of his professional career, once he was caught, his response was to stonewall and deny everything. When the investigation got more serious, he told Falcons owner Arthur Blank - with whom he was said to be close, and not just because Blank had made him the highest-paid player in the league - that he was not involved with Bad Newz Kennels. He told Roger Goodell he was not involved with the dogfights either. Then his codefendants started pleading guilty, and he still admitted nothing. Finally, after they’d all turned state’s evidence and he was obviously screwed, and he plead guilty. For a while he didn’t cooperate fully with the FBI even after pleading guilty, and he also failed a drug test during that time.

About two years later, this is the guy who is apologizing and says he’s earned a lot, who, according to some people, has earned another shot. I’ve got no desire to see him die in the gutter and I’d like to believe he’s really sorry and realized what he did wrong. I would. But if you were a fan, Arthur Blank, or Roger Goodell and you took Michael Vick at his word at any point earlier in this saga, you were a chump. So it’s difficult for me to jump off that cliff at this point on the basis of what Vick has done since his release.

What is he going to be doing? Hmm, let me see. Living off of his millions of dollars, maybe? Eating steak and lobster every night? Residing in a palatial estate with a giant swimming pool and anything else that he wants? Driving a Maybach or some other insanely expensive car? Hmmmm…what would I do if I were Michael Vick? Oh, dear God - what would I do!!!

http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/34914194.html In a real shock, Vick has already declared bankruptcy. Some people can not be trusted with money. He was the highest paid football player and still went broke. I suppose he spent a couple bucks on lawyers too.

Not a surprise, actually. I don’t see why he should be allowed to amass yet another fortune throwing a leather ball around a field, given that he pissed away all of his money once already (more money than anybody here will ever have.) He had the chance to do great things with all that money, but what did he do? He spent it on fucking dogfighting. I have no idea why people talk about Vick like he has any legitimacy at all. He doesn’t. He is not a legitimate person. He is not a contributing member of society. He is a trained animal who is good at one thing and one thing only, throwing a ball.

So why shouldn’t he be employed doing that?

Because someone wants to hire him.

Considering Vick’s dire financial situation has been highly publicized for over 2 years now, I’d say it’s not particularly surprising at all. I’m actually more surprised that you thought he had millions.

What do you mean by “allowed”?
