First and second generation iPhone owners, are you jealous because your phone didn’t come with a videocamera? Are you afraid to jailbreak your phone to get a video camera?
I have just downloaded an amazing new app called Qik VideoCamera from the app store and am simply amazed by it. It’s not the same quality as the built in camera for the 3GS, but it is a very acceptable 15 fps. It shoots in portrait or landscape mode, has no recording limit. and has adjustments for brightness and zoom. You can apply effects such as black and white, a red and blue “Avatar” effect, or mirror split effects. You can export videos to your camera roll and share them by email. No Facebook, Twitter or YouTube sharing, or SMS yet, but the developers say that’s coming soon. You can also wirelessly view your videos on a PC or Mac over your local network - no syncing with iTunes is needed.
It will work on all first and second generation iPhones with the 3.1 software installed. I have bought this app and been shooting videos of my dog. The picture quality is great, considering the quality of the older models’ cameras and the sound is very good, too. The video movement is very smooth and the controls are intuitive. This app has made it quite easy to hold on to my 3G model and put off upgrading to a 3GS. It’s only $0.99 for a limited time, and for me, definitely worth getting at such a miniscule price.
Note, mods, this is not a paid testimonial by any means. I am not getting anything out of this. I am just blown away by the ability to shoot video on my iPhone without upgrading or jailbreaking it. This is just something I must share and something I thought might be of special interest to all iPhone owners.
