Videos for future me: need ideas

  1. My wife is pregnant and when our baby girl arrives, I’d like to hold her and record a video for her to watch when she is, say, 16. In this video, I will say something like this:

“We love and trust you. And we know that you are 16 and are responsible. If we worry about you and treat you like a kid sometimes, it’s because you were once this little baby. So, we are sending this video to you in 2025 from 2009 so you’ll understand us a little bit more.”

That is one idea. I would like to do more videos like this, perhaps one for every life event: graduation, marriage, first child and so on. These videos don’t all have to be with the newborn. But you get the idea.

  1. I also think it would be neat to photograph our child every week to create an effect like this three-year time-lapse video.

  2. Or maybe photograph our child at the same landmark every year around the same time.

Have you done a future-looking project like this before? Or can you think of what keywords I might use to search for ideas on the internets? I tried, but couldn’t find anything.

We have two little girls, one almost three and the other six months. I kept wanting to write letters to the first one but never got around to it, mostly laziness I guess. When the second one was born I wrote one letter to each. I mostly told them where they got their names, a bit about both of us parents, and a bit about how they act and things like that. Since Sabina is two years older her letter was longer. I plan on doing one a year near their birthdays and give them to them when they get older. I have no idea what age they will get them, probably 18 or so. Never thought about giving them advice or anything like that, might have to wait until they get older for that.

Thanks for the idea. I like the idea of letters.

Wow, she’s beautiful.

What about taking pictures of the places you live in? Home, neighbourhood, etc. I know that I’m always fascinated to see pictures of where I grew up.
