The vikings unveiled their new uniforms yesterday. I kind of like them. I especially like that they went back to the purple pants. I always loved the purple pants. I’m also glad the rumors about getting rid of the horns on the helmet weren’t true. They changed them a little but they’re still horns. I was a little worried but I think they look pretty sharp.
Other opinions? A uniform change got the Broncos a couple of rings. can lighting strike twice?
Yanno, I dunno. They’re alright, I guess. They’re not horrible.
I guess I’m mostly divided about the movement in the NFL as a whole to go to CFL-type looking uniforms. Not that I’m against updates, it’s just that all of these new uniforms don’t really look like NFL teams. I gotta think about who I’m watching now, and I’d more likely think it was the CFL playing if I caught a quick glance. So yeah, there’s a part of me that’s traditionalist enough that I mourn the loss of the old uniforms. I’m not wild about the San Francisco Buccaneers playing the Seattle Jaguars, if you know what I mean. I think that in the whole transition to new uniforms, teams have lost some of their individuality, their instant identification. I don’t instantly know who’s playing anymore; half the time I have to look at the scoreboard. Perhaps I just miss the teams of my youth. Perhaps I’m an old codger now, yelling at the kids to get offa my lawn.
The new uniforms’ll work; they’re not bad. But I won’t be rushing out to buy one.
What have you got against the CFL? For instance Montreal’s jersies are very nice
As for the Vikings, at least they didn’t mess with the helmet. The horns are classic. The rest of their unis are “meh” to me both before and after the change.
Nothing. Nothing at all. The CFL is a perfectly fine, stand up organization. One whose players I used to be able to tell apart from those of the NFL at a glance. Sadly, due to the NFL co-opting of CFL uniform design, this is something that’s harder and harder to do. I’m sad that the NFL is losing its individuality, and I’m sad that the teams that comprise the NFL are becoming more and more cookie-cutter.
The uniforms are much better than they could have ended up. I saw some artist renditions that made the uniforms look like rejected Baltimore Ravens uniforms. That was god-awful.
Overall, I think the new design is OK–the changes were on the subtle side. I’m not sure about the new helmet logo. Supposedly the horns are supposed to look 3-D, but I haven’t seen a good picture of the new helmet.
As to the uniform changes getting you a couple of rings, good luck with that. Te Broncos got their rings through talent and chop blocking.
I always thought the NFC Norris was great in that it’s uniforms were as consistent and traditional as any in any sport. The Vikings had to go and screw it up. The new unis aren’t terrible and the purple pants are totally OK with me, but that dumb looking horn running down the leg looks utterly retarded. The silly swoosh the Broncos employ still looks lame nearly a decade later.
Also, has there ever been anything dumber than a lame fashion show motif replete with awkward players under confetti and flashbulbs?
