It doesn’t? :dubious: Why not?
Because Catholics are often too intimidated to walk out during a priest’s sermon.
So Bill isn’t America’s First Black President anymore now?
Gee.

Wright is worse than Duke. He was a spiritural advisor. And unlike the Democratic party the Republican party stepped on Duke like the cockroach he was. Your party still supports an ex-KKK leader (not just a follower) who is comfortable using words like “White Nigger”, But thanks for ducking the question I asked someone else.
So we were attacked because of our foreign policy? Is this not true? Doesn’t sound to controversial to me.
Incidently, Ron Paul was also saying the same things; he then went on, at one point, to recieve more donations from active military families than anyother candidate. (cite: RP speaking at cpac on cspan)
Oh, and I believe the CIA also supports this claim, probably with just not as colorful of language.
Obama’s poll numbers have fallen and will fall further.
This story has legs. Everyone hasn’t heard about it yet, but they will.
The “God damn America” and loony conspiracy sound bites will be played all over morning radio ad infinitum.
The Republicans have made enormous political capital over the decades by portraying all Democrats as part of the loony left. Now, the presumptive nominee has a father confessor who is the embodiment of the loony left. Not just that, but it’s all on tape, and you can even buy the tapes.
There’s also a deeper issue. On public opinion polls, black Americans routinely express agreement with conspiracy theories like Wright’s. As a man who offers guidance to thousands of black Americans, he ought to take the time to do some god damned fact checking. Instead of countering the blame the government, blame America, feel good bullshit, he spreads it.
Another very interesting read. from abroad. Some of you may not like it, it’s too blunt on the facts at the end.

Bullshit. Been there, done that. It wasn’t for anything unpatriotic, racist or any other unsavory reason. Just got tired of the sermons. If a priest had made comments like Wright I would have made a public announcement on my way out with a finger pointing in the direction of Heaven.
Just like David Brooks predicted.
Same old game but with New! Improved! Hypocrisy!
WOW.
This story has as much legs as Ferraro did. Doesn’t mean Obama is going to throw in the towel…sorry. Your going to have to wait until the convention to see him win the nom.
O I just love it when people like David Brook use words like
Ohhh - gives me the willies. I don’t want to jab article for article, we could probably do that all night. And neither one of us would feel vindicated. I’ll stick by my guy until he’s POTUS or not. I’m sure you will do the same for your candidate. It’s what makes this country great. Obama’s got to play his cards right, and so does Clinton. This horse race has only entered the last lap. A lot can happen - Barbaro would agree with me.
Did you overlook this part?
If you’d rather keep on pretending there isn’t a problem, or that it will magically disappear somehow, go right ahead.
First of all, I don’t have a party. I’ve never been a member of any political party in my 24 years as a voter.
Secondly, Duke is worse than Wright because Wright is not a racist. That makes your analogy inoperable but even so, I DID answer your question. The fact is, we don’t have to pose hypotheicals about what would happen if Republican poliuticians aligned themselves with bigots because they do it all the time and no one says boo.
I’d love to see him win the nomination. I’d love to see him become president.
He should definitely take it to the convention and fight it out with the Naked Empress (she who has no clothes ).
Every media outlet is going to have a field day with this stuff, and it will bring him down. I expect Hillary to openly call for the nomination by claiming that Obama’s association with Wright makes him unfit. She’s going to have the leverage she needs with the super delegates.
Wright and his rhetoric are just pure poison when it comes to attracting the votes of what used to be called “Reagan Democrats”. So much of it is wrong on a factual basis. So much of it is a product of black American provincialism.
I do not have much of a problem with what he said about 9/11. I only mentioned it because it is something that will not play well with the public. The same is true for his God damn America comments.
The really problematic statements are the ones that are clearly and demonstrably false: the government created HIV, the government knew about the attacks on Pearl Harbor beforehand, etc.
From what I’ve heard on either CNN or MSNBC, both Fox and ABC had bought copies of the entire sermons. I highly doubt the montage of Wright’s most controversial clips that runs on Hannity and Colmes was put together precisely like that by the church.
It is a joke because these sort of race and religious test we are making Obama take exludes, rather than includes, all Americans. At what point does the fragile and tired, elderly blackwoman, who has witnessed in her life the comings and goings of Kings and Kennedys, and who, despite not agree with everything she hears every Sunday, has continued to show up early to get that first pew for decades; when does she get to have a President speak for her?
Is this 1960? Good question.
Don’t get your hopes up. This is not going to move any votes. I’m sure it will bounce around indefinitely in the conservative media echo chamber but the only people who will care (or pretend to care) are people who would never vote for a Democrat anyway. I think you’re going to be very disappointed when you find out that all your jumping and screaming will amount to a zero effect on the polls. He’s going to be your next President and you are very fortunate that you’ll be able to tell your grandkids you were alive when it happened.
its clear that Obama hasn’t denounced Wright. He has unequivocally denounced the negative message. And whether or not Obama was aware before and didn’t publicly denounce Wright shouldn’t be held against him as well.
If he denounces Wright he loses his toehold in his community base, his adopted tribe, his spiritual base, his local church.
if he leaves his base, he loses his leverage and credibility with African Americans and his popularity amongst whites will be useless if he wishes to bring a spirit of reconciliation to America.
Obama has already been denounced by other black spiritual leaders for denouncing Wright. As I’ve said before, even when Obama specifically avoided denouncing Wright. This is a very sensitive issue for African Americans. This will require a steady hand in positive campaigning.
Rather than rejecting his congregation and former pastor, Obama sees that MLK’s hope can only be attained by a change in the way politics including race politics is conducted. Obama wants to show us the results of that change, and he can’t do it if he rejects Wright or his community.
Know of anyone who’s left America because of Bush ?
Thanks for that.
Yeah, but you know damn well that Barack doesn’t believe that shit so what difference does it make?
What could have possibly been edited out to make his statements on HIV , Pearl Harbor, and governmental drug importation anything other than ignorant and delusional?
Does *everyone * know that damn well? Including the undecideds and persuadables? Don’t be too sure.
