Damn this is gonna be tight. But the Democratic candidates are pulling in decent numbers and could hold the Senate majority.
WashingtonPost graph of the balance of power now shows at least crosshatched (“probable”) races 20 seats going to the Democrats. They need +1 and of course those crosshatched races need to end up getting called in that direction. But they’ve got the advantage at the moment.
Cook Political Report thinks the Democrats have held the Senate
In the VA Senate, Democrats have 21 seats for sure with a shot at 22 in SD27 and a long shot at 23 in SD24.
Democrats look like they’re going to win the VA House of Delegates as well. Districts to watch are the 57th, 89th, and 97th. When one of those is called blue, control of the House of Delegates will probably be called too.
According to The Hill, Democrats have won control of both chambers.
This delights me more than all the other off-year election outcomes together. They were all important, but Glenn Youngkin had big plans to jump into the 2024 presidential race if he’d managed to win both houses in his state. He scares me.
Oh, boo hoo, Glenn!
These off-year elections are, to me, the very best indicators of what is going to happen in presidential election years. I’m happy tonight!
Seriously, all-in-all it’s shaping up to be a good night to be a Democrat, and not so good for the Death Eaters. I’m feeling a teensy bit less anxious heading into 2024.
Excellent news!
Blue House of delegates, blue Senate, sad lil red governor.
A bit off-topic, but another important race… for the vacant seat on the PA Supreme Court… went D last night as well.
Why is this important? Because the PA courts saw the largest number of Trump election challenges in 2020 (of any state court system), something which is likely to reoccur in 2024.
As a Pennsylvanian, I say HUZZAH!
Another Virginia victory for the Democrats:
Conservatives had opposed pro-LGBT+ narratives and the teaching of CRT. The voters did not agree.
I love the smell of Donald-Trump-destroying-the-GOP in the morning. It’s the smell of victory.
