Close enough. “While I am not calling you a ‘mean spirited, narrow minded, rude, and ignorant baboon,’ since I do not know you as an individual, and wish to give you the benefit of the doubt, the posts you have chosen to make have given evidence that your stance is that of ‘a mean spirited, narrow minded, rude, and ignorant baboon.’ Kindly correct this misperception by having the common decency to explain what you meant by your three posts consisting of nothing but ‘Ook, ook, ook.’”
“While it remains possible that you are not actually a narrow minded idiot, thus far you are a complete substitute for one, until such time as a real narrow minded idiot comes along.”
VirgoWitch has never claimed to be Wiccan, and not all witches believe in the Rede or in the Rule of Three, so we have no way of knowing if he is acting within the tenets of his religion. He is acting like a jerk, but that may even be in keeping with his religious beliefs, not all religions are fluffy bunny, either.
Sorry about the hijack–the whole Wicca-Witch thing is one of my buttons, even though I’m neither Wiccan not a Witch.
Well, I’m glad to see the teeming millions know when to bury an expression! As for Virgo, I’ve spent too much time trying to convert people who enjoy bullying (yes, that’s what you are…a bully). There will always be the dregs of society and I will do my best to avoid the shit cloud that always seems to follow them.
This guy is exactly the kind of person I raised my son not to be.
It’s the closest thing to a “bible” in the religion, thus my comparison. The actual practice of Withcraft pretty much revolves around it.
I realize that no one dogma can be followed exactly for every member of any religion, but that doesn’t absolve it’s members of the responsibility. That’s like saying because there’s criminals in the world, no one should have to follow any laws.
Also, as I understand it, the part of Wiccan Rede I cited, The Rule of Three is not a guideline for behaviour, but an explanation of the way the universe works. Actually, even this Christian has seen evidence which could back that, including in the way people respond on this board.
By the way, is anyone else amused that a couple of Christians are citing the Wiccan Rede?
I just want to make clear I think Virgowitches sentiments are reprehensible…for anyone. My only issue is as soon as someone sees “witch” in the username, it becomes all about the Rede and the Rule Of Three. I was led to believe the issue was his offensive use of the word bastard(among other boneheaded delights), and not how his spirituality or lack thereof comes into play here. It seems alot of threads go off topic this way, and alot of trainwrecks could be avoided by sticking to the issue.
I never said he wasn’t a witch, I said he didn’t claim to be Wiccan. The big difference between Wiccans and witches is that you do not have to be Wiccan to be a witch. I also know some Wiccans who don’t practice witchcraft, but that’s a whole other issue!
Nor does a witch have to follow the Western witchcraft traditions, which is where I believe the Rede comes from. If your witchcraft comes from, say China or Peru, the Rede may be unknown. And there are people who practice evil witchcraft, specifically to cause harm–yes, it’s a perversion of witchcraft, just as Satanism is a perversion of Christianity, but it does exist. We only know that Virgowitch is a witch, we do not know enough to determine is he is working within the guidelines of his religion, or even if he considers being a witch to being part of a religion.
I meant to add that I was just being long-winded in agreeing with Witch–the whole discussion of Virgowitch’s religion is beside the point and only came into the conversation because some people assumed they knew what he believed simply because he’s a witch.
Also, more generally, there are Christian assholes, there are Jewish assholes, and there are Muslim assholes. So, why wouldn’t there be Wiccan assholes? I think assholeness is ecumenical.
But again, if someone posts under the handle “CaliforniaChristian,” I would expect his to act as a Christian. Not by my interpretation of what a Christian is, mind you, but by his.
Similarly, if one claims to be a witch, I expect him to make an effort to act in accordance with his beliefs.
I for one don’t know what he believes. So, just as I would ask a Christian if hurtful words jive with his beliefs, I am asking Virgowitch if hurtful words jive with his.
