Virus on PalmPilot - how to delete file?

Okay - I haven’t done research on this - if there is a quick link to the Palm site, I fully deserve mocking…

When I Hotsync, I am notified about a Quarantined file called Moreinfo.doc - so how do I delete this file off my PalmPilot handheld unit?

Thanks!

What happens when you simply try to delete it? Your launcher’s menu should have a “delete” item, if you don’t use a separate file manager to do those things. Does this not work? And does the doc file have a virus, or is it being quarantined just because it’s a dangerous file type?

Excalibre - perhaps I am was not clear - or I am totally clueless; not sure. The virus file (infected with the “beagle” virus, apparently) is on my PalmPilot handheld unit. So far, I haven’t been able to just find that file and delete it - there is no File Manager search on my handheld (near as I can tell).

I check the Palm site and they seem to be suggesting that I back up my PDA (as always the corrupt file will be quarantined by Norton) then do a hard reset on my handheld to erase all data, then do a HotSync.

Seems aggessive but unless anyone has other ideas, I guess that’s what I’ll do…

download a shareware util called Filez (should work on your Palm) from palmgear.com, it is a simple file manager and with it you can easily delete the offending file, just like in Windoze.

Gave this a try - and while FileZ appears to be pretty cool, it was not able to help me find the bad file. The virus simply doesn’t appear on the FileZ file manager when I search for it on my handheld.

The name of the virus is W32.Beagle.J@mm

If anyone has other ideas I would appreciate hearing about them.

Palm units don’t really have viruses… They are theoretically possible, but none has ever been found in the wild.

If you are getting a notice that a .doc file is infected with beagle, that’s probably not on your Palm at all. The PalmOS doesn’t natively support .doc files, so it’d be unusual to see any there. Perhaps on a memory card…

What may be happening is that you have some third party app (WordSmith, DocsToGo) that tries to convert files between Word format and Palm format (and vice versa) when you sync, and making the file active in this way causes a scan of the doc file and then sets off your anti-virus. In this case, you should get rid of it off your PC.
