I have a Palm handheld (actually, a Handspring, but using the Palm OS), and I downloaded some freeware for a trip to France: a CitiKey map and guide to Paris, and a **TrueTerm **French/English dictionary.
But now that the trip is over, I’d like to delete these applications. So I go to the Launcher, choose App → Delete, and… they aren’t in the list of applications!
I have tried searching the supplier websites and the Web in general, but so far no answers - which leads me to The Source for Arcane Information (SDMB)
I suspect that the “applications” are actually in the list, but disguised under a different name, like “rc3ADB” - but I’m reluctant to charge in and start deleting stuff willy-nilly. Any Dopers out there who have helpful suggestions?
I have a handspring too, but I’ve never had this problem. If it makes you feel more comfortable about deleting stuff, mine doesn’t have any applications with weird names on it. Mine doesn’t even allow me to delete important stuff (datebook, the OS, etc). So as long as you’re backed up, I say start deleting.
Oh, and if you do hot-sync regularly, don’t forget to delete it from your computer, too. Otherwise it’ll try to restore those programs, I think.
Problem is, I’ve downloaded and added a bunch of stuff in addition to the “native” apps, like an encrypted database of passwords - and I don’t want to risk deleting one of these by accident. For instance, “rc3ADB” is one of the apps listed in my handheld, but I’m not sure what it goes with.
Do a hotsynd, then make a note of what you are deleting and if it turns out to be the wrong thing, you should be able to restore it from the /archive or /backup folders in your palm folder (in Program Files somewhere). This may be dependent on your hotsync/backup settings - check these out first.
I have a memory expansion card, and the File Mover that allows applications and data to be moved or deleted from the expansion card was only showing “Data” - that was why I could not find the applications to remove them.
Once again, technology has conspired to baffle me. :o
