Visiting parents after 6months away.....

Its been about 6 months since I saw my parents last and so I decided to surprise them with a quick visit.

So far I am enjoying myself but also remembering why I moved interstate. My mum just wont stop talking, non-stop, yak yak yak…

I’ve had exactly 4 moments of respite from the non-stop stream of words:

  1. When I eventually fell asleep Thursday night (thank-god for earplugs)
  2. Driving dad to work yesterday so I could have the car for the day to take mum shopping.
  3. Falling asleep last night (thank-god for those earplugs)
  4. Going to work with my brother this morning.

It was fun seeing dads new surgery and even more fun spending a couple of hours with my brother and getting to have a look at the inside bits of the Mack trucks they were serviceing. Although helping to clean the grease of his tools was a fair bit of work - truck tools a huge.

Strange to think my dad and brother both work in healing professions but where dad is a doctor and fixes people my brother is a diesel mechanic and fixes trucks

Best bit about visiting my parents - mum has gone on a cooking orgy I will be going home with an extra suitcase FULL of cookies, chocolate chip, white chocolate and macadamia, dark chocolate and macadamia, rum balls, peanut and caramel. Yum Yum Yum :stuck_out_tongue:

Must go as some of the cookies are slightly burnt so I have to remove them from the container - mum doesn’t want me taking any inferior cookies back to Melbourne where my MIL might see them. Means I get to eat some cookies now.

Just remember the acorn never falls far from the tree.

Despite the yak situation, sounds like you have a nice family! And did somebody say cookies!

Dontcha mean bikkies???

:stuck_out_tongue:

After the jumper/sweater incident I’m trying to accomodate the 'mericans when I post.

Love visiting mum and dad and getting spoilt rotten

kniz they day I start talking like my mum is the day I lock myself away in a padded room. Incipient signs of mum speak include the use of the following terms:

“Tacky-poo” - universal word used to describe anything from a fashion mistake to gross and disgustion bodily functions.

“Did you know” - preface’s every second sentence, usually followed by a long story about television documentary that is currently screening.

“You don’t know” - preface’s response to a statement made by either dad, brother or me which contradicted some deep seated mum truth.
