Viva Espana ! I’m impressed by your courage and determination.

Starving Artist,

Look for example on this thread.

And no, I’m not Moroccan either… (mmm… Excuse me asking, but why should I be and Moroccan and female? )

As to Mehi and her vivid fantasy: She obviously constantly dreams of me, picturing me sitting in front of my humble black tent in the desert, with one criple camel and a skinny goat in the background. Sort of Arab “Hollywood Style”.
To Mehi: I always forgot to tell you that I have also a few invaluable swords with the blood of the crusading Christians still on it. Care to come and take a look?

They were higher then normal and the opinion I heard on that is that those voters who normally wouldn’t have bothered to vote, in this case made the difference.

Sunshine, I suggest you explain why that was not a physical threat against another poster, and right quick.

aldebaran, I don’t think you do the Spanish people a favor here. Why don’t you open another thread about those pesky Americans [or USers, as you might say]

And everyone knows you’re not a Morrocan girl. You’re a Belgian- Morrocan housewife.

I know that. Yet there were a lot of demonstrations and opposing voices against this war adventure, so my question is: Where are all those demonstrators now? Why don’t they come out to let their opinion about this government be heard.

So my questions stands:
What do they need to finally come out of their homes and voice their opinion, disageement and concern with such a government ?

gum, ga met uw poppen spelen. Children are not allowed to mix themselves in discussions between adults.

I thought I remembered seeing a post once where the poster gleefully claimed he had determined you were a girl, and Morrocan. Since it appears that was wrong, my apologies.

Moonlight, May I suggest you change your tone a bit, and right quick.

And why an invitation to Mehi to visit me represents to you “a physical threat” is in my opinion something you should work out with a psychiatrist.

Salaam. A

aldebaran, Let’s speak English, shall we? [if you can manage] Thank you for calling me ‘thou’ though. :D.

I take it you mean; “adults” as in all posters, but you? Please leave the Spanish people their dignity. Don’t praise them because you’re pissed off by Americans.

And what about that threat you made to Mehitabel? For adults only?

Getting on with their lives. They will come out in Nov when we have an election.

Is there something in that question that wasn’t asked the first time? Keep asking the same question, and you’ll get the same answer: In November.

SA,

No need to apologize … It seems some members have some sort of delusional obsession with me. It is my shining personality burning through cyberspace and PC screens that causes such effects.

Saudis still have black silk tents? Kewl. Bedouins are like the cowboy pioneers of Arabia, I’ve always admired their freedom and restlessness.

And there’s demonstrations all the time. There’s a bunch of people who stand in Union Square every weekend (this is a longtime place for political stuff in NY, the Gershwins even wrote a song about it for 1933’s LET ‘EM EAT CAKE) that say stuff like ‘BUSH IS A CRIMINAL’ and ‘GET OUR TROOPS HOME NOW’ and ‘FREE PALESTINE’, etc. Hundreds of thousands of people pass them every day’ some agree, some disagree, a few stop to argue or say “Good for you”.

I also participated in quiet rallies, large and small, one in Union Square too, after 9/11. I think we’ve kind of evolved past the instant-mass-demonstration form of protest, although Washington still gets them regularly, especially around May Day. We show how we feel in the polls and before that, in our choice of political contributions, in debates between ourselves, in town meetings, in letters to our representatives…

I think I said it before to you: you need to learn how to read.

I asked why the US’ers don’t come on the streets to protest their lying deceiving war mongering government.

But in fact you point out something I forgot: Yes, the lack of massive demonstrations against this government implies indeed that the US’ers surrender themselves to the mercy and the lies and deception ofthat government.

JohnMace,

Do you think that coming Nov. you shall see more voters then in the past?
If yes: Why?
If no: Why not?

And if Bush is re-elected, what conclusion do you think must be made out of that?
Salaam. A

Or what? You’ll invite me to have alook at your blood-soaked swords as well?

I’ve reported the post containing your comments directed at Mehitabel, and if the Mods decide it’s not worthy of action, I’ll abide by that.

Aldebaran, can I ask where AQ’s the great concern for the Iraqi people has suddenly come from? I mean given the remarkable number of Iraqi dead from sectarian strife fanned by our good friends? This had nothing to do with Iraq, or Afghanistan for that matter. This was solely tied to punishing the Spanish people for their government’s support of the US. The government wasn’t punished by AQ, the Spanish people were. Had the electorate simply voted the opposition into power without a specifically staged massacre, I would have no issue with that. This was something else.

As to political spinning, I still don’t see how immediately suspecting the ETA was a wrong decision. As you pointed out yourself 30 years of Basque terrorism, would seem to immediately lend weight to that decision. In another thread you mentioned the potential for misleading planted evidence linking the attack to Islamist terrorists. Evidence the Spanish government did disregard as it fell outside their immediate experience. Finally the government did present evidence that could seriously affect their electability. In short they, from an outside perspective, behaved reasonably.

ElKabong…

Now you show you can’t even read your own posts anymore. I copied the words " and right quick" from yours.
Are you now once again thinking and clearly stating that you can give me “orders”, yet that I can’t turn the same back to you, or what are you trying to bring across? (If the first is the case: dream further and be foolishly happy with it.)

As for “alerting” the moderators. Maybe they shall intervene to tell you to bring your disturbing off-topic remarks where they belong.
By the way: Does it appear to you that Mehi can’t speak for herself so that you have to play the Knight on the White Horse?
It appears to me that Mehi is just fine and adult enough to read what I write. And that you just used the thought that she couldn’t - insulting her intellect - to find a silly excuse to disturb my thread with your ridiculous for sought and distubing off-topic comments.

Wrongo. Did you not see any footage of the thousands upon thousands of us who were out demonstrating in the immediate aftermath of the invasion? Some counts for NY and San Francisco in particular ran to the hundreds of thousands for certain demonstrations. In fact, there is still a very hardcore group of conscience-minded folks from the Eighth Day Center for Justice who stand in front of the Federal building on my walk to work every morning with leaflets, reminding commuters that the war is still very much going on and Iraqis are suffering. Here they are: Illinois Calendar

I’ve personally attended nearly every major anti-war demonstration in Chicago and a number of minor ones, as have many of my friends. My own 60-year-old mother was nearly arrested at one; in fact, there is currently a class-action lawsuit in process against the Chicago Police for several hundred unjust arrests of peaceful demonstrators, and even random bystanders.

There are plenty of anti-war Americans; they just aren’t as visible, or (unfortunately, and hopefully not for long) as visible as the pro-war ones. Whether that’s a function of actual public opinion and/or apathy, or of the media coverage where you live, I can’t be sure.

However, today is the Illinois primary election, so I’m going after work to vote to change the status quo.

Aldebaran, I’m certainly not giving anyone orders; note the word “suggest” in my previous post. Nor have I called you any sort of insulting name, when you, on the other hand have suggested that I see a psychiatrist, and have accused me and at leat two other posters of being unable to read, in this thread alone. It is you, sir, who needs to moderate your tone if you wish to be taken seriously here, and I am trying to do you a favor by pointing this out.

You’ve been so busy hurling insults at anyone who bothers to respond to your posts that you have completely failed to notice that I actually support your point concerning the Spanish voters. This is not the first time you’ve missed the point in this manner.

Now, re: your comments to Mehitabel;surely someone as sensitive to the nuances of language as you claim to be can see that if someone who has habitually refused to discuss his location suddenly invites another poster to, as you put it, come to your location and view “a few invaluable swords with the blood of the crusading Christians still on it”, many people might read that as some sort of veiled threat. Now, if it wasn’t, that’s fine, but you have issued such veiled threats before, for example when someone, in your view, insulted your mother, and you said that if anyone here did it again, you would “take action”.

I don’t think you are actually capable of successfully carrying out a violent act against another poster, but it is, IMO, absolutely unacceptable that you should repeatedly attempt to bully posters who disagree with you in such a manner.
I don’t necessarily reject any point you make in your threads, but I have always found your attitude and in this forum unforgivably rude, and I will continue to point your rudeness out when and where I see fit.

And that is the last comment I’ll make in this thread.

Well, real life calls me away, but thanks Eva Luna, for going into detail about what some Americans do. I am sorta kinda ‘pro-war’ like I hold my nose and vote for the lesser of two evils half the time, but I respect folks like your mom and anybody else who sincerely believes it’s a big mistake. People who throw rocks at the windows of Starbucks or who mindlessly chant No Blood for Oil bug me, but guess what? I can ignore the radicals on both sides and make up my own mind. My style of protest may be quieter but I get to have it every year on Election Day, along with anybody and everybody who wants to come along. And that’s the American Way, and something I hope we all can agree on.

Thanks to my gallant knights–at first I laughed it off but the more I think about the more the casual viciousness of Alde’s remarks gets to me. I’ll see what’s happened when I get back. Off into the snow!
