Viva la Dirt League?

Any fans?

I’ve been seeing their sketches on Facebook for maybe a year now. They seem to have two general theme; a tech store with a clueless, autocratic manager and his spineless staff, and what seems to be a live-action D&D-adjacent MMORPG, with some actors presenting as one-note NPCs and others as PC adventurers.

I just now spent what should have been sleepy-time watching a 37-minute epic tale called Baelin’s Route, starring an NPC who shouldn’t even be called an NPC; he doesn’t give quests, or even interact with anyone beyond a friendly greeting. He’s familiar from the seven-minute sketches I’ve watched, but just because he so often shows up to add *local color" to the pre-industrialimeanpre-renaissance community of Honeywood.

In this tale, though, he finds himself “recruited” by a PC adventurer who has found himself in over his head in a battle with a band of bandits (I’ve never played an MMORPG. Is that a thing?). Guy seems to have plot armor. He only ever says one scripted greeting. And that’s about all I’m willing to post about the video, except to say that if you have a half hour to spare, there are definitely worse ways to spend it.

Been a fan for several years after being introduced to Epic NPC Man by a coworker. I’ve pledged to both their Kickstarters (one to produce Baelin’s Route, the other to build their new studio) and I consequently have several pieces of memorabilia from them, and there’s a plaque somewhere in the studio that says “Smapti Smaptison” on it.

Nice day for fishin’, ain’t it?

Love them  They do a fantastic job on getting Gaming humor done properly.

Not that I’ve seen. Although there was a webcomic parody of City of Heroes in which the main character, your typical NPC bystander, got fed up and tried to be a hero.

There are games which have recruitable NPCs but those mooks tend to be specific rather than some random fisherman or whatever.

I’m a big fan. Over the years they have really gelled into a tightly skilled ensemble of actors, they are one of the most consistently funny YouTube channels. Rowan is especially brilliant, he plays the vain semi-sadistic big lug hilariously perfect.

Just another vote for yes, I love them and watch their shorts when they come up on FB. I do love the one where the player decides to eat a mushroom…

Absolutely great troupe. They have a number of different things on video game logic in Shooters, MMORPGS and other games. I love their bit on lowering the difficulty setting.

Enjoy watching them. I like the video game stuff more than the real life (work, restaurant, rental, etc) stuff but it’s all pretty good and, at 2 - 3 minute per video, it’s hard to go away feeling like you wasted your time.

So very much that.^^^

@kaylasdad99, thanks for the recommendation; I’ve seen it twice now. Second time with my SO, who isn’t really a gamer so didn’t quite understand it but enjoyed it anyway.

Yes, I too enjoy the site.

(I’ve been playing Lord of the Rings Online for over 14 years - and I always feel sorry for the NPC Guard in Bree who wishes he could afford better armour!)

Yeah I used to love them. I found them out from their Pubg shorts when I used to play it and I used to watch their fantasy and epic npc man shorts. Brit was my favorite.

That shit’s dingo!

These sketches are great, but I don’t know if I could handle watching much longer than 10 minutes or so.

For more of a TTRPG feel with a similar vibe, One-for-All out of Deerstalker Studios (also on YouTube) is amazing.

Viva la Dirt League has a game now!

I really enjoy their MMORPG sketches a lot, particularly Epic NPC Man. I’ve been watching them for years.

Their computer store and other “real world” bits aren’t nearly as funny. Also, I worked as a salesman in a real computer store, and the videos that are supposed to portray that world don’t come across as authentic at all. What makes the MMORPG episodes so funny is that they do a great job of poking fun at things you’ll commonly see in games. The electronic store bits feel more like a sitcom just trying to make jokes.
