Vmr9

I use Zoom Player to play all of my audio/video files, and up until recently I was using the VMR9 video renderer as opposed to the more universal Overlay Mixer. VMR9 is supposed to have more advanced scalers, and the quality indeed appeared to be better. Unfortunately, quality took a sudden turn for the worse which I think might be related to the installation of the newest ATI video drivers (I am running a Radeon 9800). VMR9 seems to use Direct3D, but I am not particularly clear on how they are related.

Anyway, on to the description of the problem! I don’t really know how to describe it, so I have posted a frame capture that seems to represent it fairly well here. This is the same frame, the top using the VMR9 renderer and the bottom the Overlay Mixer. They are unedited; VMR9 gives very nicely blended huge honkin’ pixels. Any ideas on what could be the cause?
