Vomiting in your sleep - ever done this?

Last night, my nephew seems to have sleep walked/sleep puked with no recollection of doing so. When I went to pick him up to take him to school today, he called me up to my sister’s apartment, lead me into his bedroom, and showed me a pile of vomit on the floor. He says he felt pretty sick last night, fell asleep, and when he woke up, there was throw up on the floor, and his mouth tasted nasty.

How do you do that? Wouldn’t the act of vomiting wake a person up? Has anyone here had children do this before? And before you ask, my nephew is 12, and I’m confident that drugs and alcohol were not involved.

Could be an bad case of GERD

Gastroesophageal reflux disease

Yes it does happen to kids, but when it happened to mine he was younger than your nephew. Your nephew must have been very tired/sick and he thought he was dreaming. When it happened to mine it was mind boggling that he didn’t wante up to go to the bathroom, I cant think of any other reason other than being either very sick or totally knowcked out.

Ugggg the worse part was one time it happened on bunk beds twin top/full bottom, and the puker was on the top bunk. Missed his little brothers head but totally got the pillow, mattress, carpet, etc. yuck.

No way. He’d be dead. I’ve had gastric juices move up my esophagus and it’s extremely painful when it gets into the lungs. He would have remembered this in no uncertain terms as it takes 30 minutes or more of painful coughing to get it out and that’s only a little bit of fluid in the lungs. This has killed people who were too intoxicated to react to it in time.

The amount of vomiting as described by the op would require the person participate in some way. Otherwise it would be all over the bed and himself. Whether it was sleep walking or he forgot it happened is unknown.

I woke up in the process of vomiting once. That’s when I stopped keeping my comic book collection on the floor next to my bed.
