Waffles and what?

Alton Brown’s recent episode about waffles keeps popping into my head; guess I’m going to have to dig out the waffle maker that I haven’t used in years. Anybody have any family or local combos beyond the classic waffles and eggs, waffles and ice cream, or waffles and fried chicken?

Waffles and fruit? Waffles and bacon? If you’re feeling spendy, waffles and fruit and bacon.

I live – literally, out my front door! – to a chicken and waffles restaurant.

The best brunch I ever searched was a waffle concoction; freshly-made spicy curry-laced waffles (with the Frugal Gourmet’s egg-white recipe from scratch, NOT a boxed kit!), topped with whipped cream cheese, Indian chutney (fig or blueberry), slices of fresh fruit (fig or blueberry), freshly whipped cream (not sweetened), and another sprinkling of curry powdered.

A local diner makes a variation on biscuits and gravy called “Moon Biscuits and Gravy”. They cook biscuit batter in a waffle iron, then serve w/eggs, sausage gravy, and potatoes. Yum!

Waffles and more waffles?

My fave is simple: Waffles, sliced banana, maple syrup and whipped cream

Cut a couple of strips of baon in half and cook them in the waffle iron. After they have crispped nicely, pour the waffle batter right on top of the bacon and make a waffle with a heart of bacony goodness.

Slightly off topic, but another use of a waffle iron is to make French toast!
Prepare French toast as normal, but slap the toast in the waffle iron instead of frying in a pan.
Quick and easy.

BTW, never did understand the whole “waffles and chicken” thing.
Might as well have pancakes and Swedish meatballs…

I don’t know how this’d be with real, homemade, good quality waffles, but I used to take a couple frozen waffles (Downyflake preferably), toast 'em, and then spread peanut butter on both and either eat 'em individually, or put 'em together to make a ridiculously unhealthy toasted peanut butter sandwich.

[stage whisper]Psst. It’s the whole sweet and salty thing. It’s good. Really.[/stage whisper]

Toasted waffles make really good meat and cheese sandwiches, too.

I’m not familiar with waffles and chicken, but I imagine it’d be similar to waffles and turkey. Although that’s really more something made to use up turkey after Thanksgiving than something made for its own sake.

If you like cocoa and hazelnut, slather on some Nutella. (Right next to the Peanut Butter in most US grocery stores) Yum!

Waffles and fried chicken is the bomb! I’m still upset that the restaurant here in town that did it went out of business. He had the best chicken I’ve ever had, and the combination, with syrup and hot sauce, on a savory waffle…oh, my!

My husband’s family eat pudding with their waffles. The flavour is pretty good, but it makes the waffles a little too soggy for my taste.

You can’t beat Homer Simpson’s Moon Waffles. I see your recipe failed in one key area – wrapping each waffle around one stick of butter.

Yeah, or pancakes and sausage!

I recommend Alton’s chocolate waffles. We make them quite frequently and usually eat them with bananas and maple syrup (or, vanilla ice cream).

Local place has a dessert–waffle base, coffee ice cream, maple sauce, and chocolate covered bacon. Amazing.

I generally make medieval waffles (waffres) with grated cheese in the batter, and serve with mascarpone and honey. Or yoghurt and honey.
