Morning, mumpers! It’s currently -4c/25f with a predicted high of 0c/32f and mostly sunny. Weather app says “Do you see that fucking bright light outside your window? It’s fucking sunny! Too bad it’s also fucking cold.” Yes, it is cold out there but outside I must go.
We had more snow during the night so it’s covered up all the bits that melted yesterday. I’ve had an email from the local police with dire warnings about icy conditions and a helpful guide about how to drive in snow. My plan is largely not to go anywhere, but today is grocery shopping day so I may well have to venture out later when the roads are quiet and the idiots have all gone to work.
We currently have a blanket of the white stuff, with more expected soon. My kids are thrilled. My inner kid is also thrilled. My outer grumpus is less than thrilled.
The only white stuff I woke to were the sink and terlit. Not likely to be any snow hereabouts all week, as we’re promised upper 50s/low 60s thru Sunday. Well, except for mid-40s today. If the long-range forecast for the month is to be believed, there won’t be any snow in January in Southern Merrylande. But later in the month, it looks like nights in the teens. ugh.
I have a couple of phone calls to make today. I want to make an appointment with our money guy to talk about increasing the monthly draw from my annuity. And I need to talk to the John Deere dealer about servicing our mower. We bought the service contract whereby a tech comes to our house to give the machine a good going-over, change oil and filters, sharpen/replace blades, and whatever else they need to do. I need to find the paperwork, but I’m pretty sure we bought it last February, so we’ll be due soon. I just don’t remember if they’ll contact us to tell us it’s due or if it’s up to us. Anyway, that’s 2 calls.
I’ll also strip the bed and, I dunno, maybe something else. Can’t be a total slug, can I? The basement fireplace is ash-filled… FCD will return to the boat yard to discuss assorted work with the manager, now that they’ll all be back from their holiday break.
Yep, another wild and wooly day at FairyChatEstate. Happy Moanday!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 47 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 64 and mostly cloudy. We shall be RDOS layabouts today as there is nowhere we need or want to be. Sup will be chikin ‘n rice, peas ‘n carrots and rolls. Not very imaginative, but tasty and easy to make.
To all the Mumpers with snow; better thee than me. Not a fan in the slightest.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Currently 23, with a predicted high of 35. Highs are supposed to be in the 40s through Thu, then the 50s Fri and Sat and back to the low 40s Sun. I’m sure all that will change as we get closer to the weekend.
Not worrying about snow here, it is 37F heading to 62F and we’re due to reach 70F later this week. The Weather Wizards are promising rain on Firday but probably not before, so that will work well. Still a bit sore from yesterday’s exertions so outside of the usual Moanday shop-n-sammich run in a couple of hours, will probably be a homebody today. Gym is possible if I feel like it.
boo fae, take care and always watch out for the idiots.
FCM, no warranty for me so I have to lug my lawn mower to the shop each year. Wondering now how it will fit into the new car, which is slightly smaller than my previous one.
And need to see if my usual Webcomics that took the holidays off have returned. Have a good week all.
24F at the moment. There is a weather warning in place for tonight for up to 2/10" of freezing rain, which will make the roads, walks, etc. a nightmare.
Speaking of nightmares, I had another of those dreams where I’m in a strange city and can’t find my way home. I really hate those.
Bagel and salmon cream cheese this morning, with scrambled oeufs on the side.
Since ours is a riding mower, we transported it via tractor to the local Amish guy - well, the old one, that is. In fact, we just gave it to him when we found out how bad it was. We assume he used it to train his mechanics, and maybe sold it. Dunno, don’t care. Anyway, glad we don’t have to lug this one.
FCD is on his way. I’m about to make a couple of phone calls, then get to other chores. rah.
Morning, Mumpers! Here in Elkhart, it’s 31 degrees F, just below freezing, headed to about 40 later on. Melty snow, cloudy skies, and Apache fog.
My wife went with the nibblings to an Epiphany dinner. I looked up the holiday, and I found out about “chalking the door.” Apparently, some folks write, in chalk, on the front door, a string of symbols starting with the first 2 digits of the year, then the initials of the 3 kings/wise men who came to see Jesus after his birth, with a cross after each initial, then the last two digits of the year. For this year, it would have been "20 C(cross) M(cross) B(cross) 26.) Do any of you “chalk the door”?
Can’t be much worse than dreaming you’ve just gotten under way for a four-week underway, and realising that you left your seabag at home so the socks and skivvies you have on will have to last four weeks…
Never heard of that particular custom.
We’re now in one of my favourite time of the year – post-holiday markdowns on lebkuchen, marzipan, chocolate, &c. Even better than the Easter and Hallowe’en post-holiday sales.
First call done and appointment made. Second will be made later as they’re experiencing a “high volume of calls” and I’d rather not listen to hold music or leave a callback number. So later…
It’s 41F and cloudy. The expected daytime high is 45F, and it’ll be overcast most of the day, with a few breaks here and there.
No white stuff is expected here, but there is a winter storm warning for the Cascades starting tomorrow and running through Thursday. Two to four feet of snow is expected.
I need to call the vet today to set up appointments for shots. The pest person is also supposed to come today, but I’m not sure when they will arrive. It would be easier to plan my day if I had a general idea of the arrival time.
Alrighty, time to finish the coffee. You all take care of yourselves.
Good morning. I’m not sure why my alarm didn’t go off, so Chloé and I only did two miles. I think she realized we were heading back early when we didn’t take the bridge over the creek for the longer trail. Her pace really picked up - she know she was going to see the Primary Human sooner. Sometimes it sucks to be the Emergency Backup Human.
My anxiety levels have dropped since Mrs Magill and I had our discussion. I was really dreading her reaction. It’s just the chronic, low grade stress right now.
Loaf Cloche
The first loaf I baked in it.
Baguette cloche:
Baguettes (I’m still befuddled how I only end up with three. I swear the recipe makes four.)
I was loading 100 Bottom White and Bottom Blue today. I wasn’t so much the volume, as the spacing between the sets made for a lot of running. Plus cutting 100 boxes of the one truck and putting it in the other was a lot of work for a Monday. I stopped and did my Alid run, and got gas for Carmen. Now it’s oatmeal folled by a nap.
You have a French ghost in the kitchen?
It’s 36 degrees Ferret Height right now, but considering it’s supposed to hit the 70s(21 Centipedes) by Wednesday, the only way I’m seeing snow is if Tony Montana moves in upstairs.
Well, that was fun. Just got FCD’s new phone hooked up with Consumer Cellular. His old one had a dead screen - that’s 2 within 2 years. Me no happy. But many props to CC - their chat function techs are very helpful - I got the new eSIM with minimal cussing. Now, to see what we can do about this screen-cracking crap.
I’m also going in search of someone other than GEICO for my auto insurance. I can’t log into my account, but when I try to call or use their chatbot, all I get told is that the best way to do anything is to log into my account. Which I can’t do. We hates them, we does!!
