They are airing all three Wallace and Grommit films.
**A Grand Day Out
The Wrong Trousers
A Close Shave**
My nephews got me addicted to Nick Park and I own all three of these movies on VHS. If you haven’t seen them, I highly recommend them.
BTW, your children will like them too.
[sub] I think I’ll get some cheese now hehehehehe[/sub]
I used to have all three on tape - I bought a box set some time ago. It happens to be one of the things I never got back when I was unceremoniously dumped by the first fiance.
That cow. I hope the tapes got left in the back seat of a car and they warped on her so she may never enjoy them again.
Anyway, now that I vented some bitterness, time to call my sister and see if she’ll tape them for me.
Are you American? No offense, but if you are, I seem to see that you are mistaken. It actually seems that the things are TOMORROW at 7 pm Eastern time, and again Sunday at 10 am Eastern time. (Do check your local listings for time and channel).
It’s a simple mistake, but I, like many Americans, enjoy Nick Park’s wonderful animated shorts. (Did you know it took him six years to complete A Grand Day Out? He was taking classes at an art school then.) It seems quite a labourious task to move little Plasticine figures around, but the results are magnificent. It sounds interesting- maybe I’ll get a job as an animator when I’m in my late 20s?
I think I’m rambling now. I’ll just be going out for some cheese now… I really do like cheese, you know.
I saw the announcement in Entertainment Weekly. Damn them.
I find it amazing the character depth Nick Park achieves. Who here doesn’t get a little teary eyed at the scene in ** A Close Shave ** when Grommit’s sitting in jail weeping?
This year was the first time me and my son (8) ever saw Wallace and Gromit.
We love them!
We just got cable, so we will probably be watching even though we saw all of the videos already.
He likes the evil penguin one.
My question: Why Gromit? Whats it supposed to mean?
Where I went to school in Britain a grommit/grommet/gromit was a generic term for any technical or industrial item whose purpose you couldn’t quite fathom. Also known as a widget, a doodah or one of a million other names. There is actually a proper word ‘grommet’ for an eyelet of material, but I doubt that’s what Park had in mind. I go with the colloquial use…
