Walz & Vance Debate Follow-Along -- Tue, Oct 1, 2024, 8:00 PM CDT

Surprising to see the level of civility here. I guess this is how it’s supposed to be. Yeah, a wash, I agree.

My favorite moment was Vance getting mad about fact-checking. That was gold.

There were moments when I thought they’d high-five then start talking about where they want to eat after the debate and it seemed wrong.

Maybe they both think each of them should be the pres.

NBC talking to 6 voters in Pennsylvania.

One guy says he’s leaning towards Harris now.

One guy says he’s more for Harris than before.

One woman says she’s still not sure if she’s voting at all because she doesn’t want the government in women’s issues (??)

One guy says he’s still voting for Harris because of women’s rights.

One woman says she was leaning Trump but is very disappointed there was no talk of hostages and has more research to do.

Have you seen a Canadian after his curling team loses? The teams sit down and buy each other drinks.

“I don’t think you’re happy enough. That’s right, I’ll teach you to be happy.”

Which hostages? Israeli hostages?

The people at home watching.

Gotta agree. I think it was the single most genuine Vance moment. The mask really slipped.

Perhaps the hostages trump keeps talking about…

I heard a political commentator say that the only time a VP debate makes a difference is if the VP really messes up. It looks like neither did, so it probably won’t matter in the end.

As usual, I will give my opinion before reading the thread. First, Vance is a much better debater . He was calm, cool and collected. Walz came across as somewhat flustered but was able somewhat to come across as passionate. I wish Walz had taken more time to introduce himself. Walz also went much more heavily into policy and sometimes it seemed to me that he assumed that the viewing public would understand the nuances of what he was saying when I think many may not have been able to grasp everything. Vance clearly was hammering home the point that Harris has been vice-president for almost four years so she be should have already implemented all of her policies. Walz missed an opportunity to point out that she is not the President, that the Congress is split and that Trump actually was President with the support of both houses of Congress yet got nothing done.

In terms of facts, I think Walz had the statistics ready. I do think that he is a lot smarter than he gets credit for.Unfortunately, I think that the American public judges on appearances more than anything else so that in that case Vance probably won but it wasn’t anything like the blowout of the last two debates and I don’t think it’s going to shift a lot of votes.

I checked off 11/25 bingo spaces but no actual bingo.

JD Vance actually came off as likable, at least compared to Donald Trump. Too bad he’s a wannabe dictator.

Be aware that by my count, there were 330 posts made during the two hours of the debate. Give yourself some time.

I wouldn’t go that far, but I will say I didn’t want to throw things at the TV wheen he was talking.

That was my big take away: Vance is a far better candidate than Trump. Too bad he’s second fiddle to The Shit Show.

I seem to have avoided that. What hostages does Trump keep talking about?

I did.

Not because of how he was saying things; but because of the things he was saying.

Me, too.

Slick lies are still lies, and worse for being delivered in a smooth manner.

Man, I miss 2012. The last normal US presidential election, and the last normal debate.

Alright.

Trump has taken to calling those who have been convicted for their actions on Jan 6th hostages.

Walz and his wife are buying pizza post debate.
