She also landed with a bunch of glowy blue energy around her body, and her eyes were glowing. I don’t think it was the producers trying to be subtle about her getting powers.

That’s plausible. Other than the bare fact of his existence (he’s appeared in the background in a few episodes), I don’t think there have been any clues.
This version of Vision has displayed some abilities (like superspeed) that the “real” Vision didn’t. But the real Vision, both in the comics and the MCU, has a fairly random power set. I think what he’s doing is reducing his density/tangibility to partially “phase” into people’s brains and disrupting their synapses, which I think but am not sure he’s done before in the MCU (he’s definitely done it in the comics). I can see how that would also disrupt Wanda’s “hex” control of them; I don’t know how he’s able to re-establish the hex. I guess he’s basically flipping on or off a couple of key synapses…maybe?
Yeah, that was a clear visual quote. We also saw when she got through the hex field, she was seeing in a much broader spectrum of electromagnetic energy than normal visible light. She clearly has something like the power set of Monica Rambeau from the comics (in the comics her powers have fluctuated a bit, both in-continuity and due to poor continuity editing between different creative teams, but they always revolve around controlling light and other forms of energy).
Yep. Maybe. There is discussion upthread about whether she’s actually behind everything, and to what extent she’s actually a villain and to what extent she’s also being manipulated or controlled by an even Bigger Bad.
We have not, I don’t think. That’s…an intriguing suggestion. Rabbits are archetypically fast. If Agnes is from an alternate universe (I now strongly suspect that the weird tunnels are or lead to the Nexus of All Realities), she may have shapeshifted her rabbit familiar into a copy of a Quicksilver she’s familiar with from her own universe.
Maybe. I didn’t get that vibe, but…maybe. If they’re doing some variation of the Master Pandemonium storyline from the comics,
it’s possible the Big Bad (Master Pandemonium, Chthon, Mephisto, Blackheart, or whoever) needed Wanda to have kids so it could incarnate itself in our dimension through them. Agnes might have been shepherding events to ensure Wanda had kids and that they “ripened” enough to be ready to serve as the Earthly vessels for her master to incarnate itself. It’s also possible that she then needed Wanda to willingly hand them over. Or maybe at least she just wanted to avoid a fight with Wanda to take them. I think that would actually be consistent with everything we’ve seen so far.
It’s an Italian maker of novelty lamps.
So I’ve been against the idea of Mephisto because he’s so cheesy…and he’s boring. His power set is nebulous and he’s never had the slightest bit of nuance (That I’ve seen)…but theres a rumor floating that a certain over-the-top actor might make an appearance and you know if you’re going to lean into it, go all the way.
Yeah well imagine living in that world where you have people like Wanda, Dr Strange, Thanos, Loki, Mysterio and soon Professor X and other mutants who can actually fuck with reality. Kind of brings “fake news” to a whole new level.
…just one little thing.
We are hitting the big unknown now. There was a lot of information that Disney had released pre-show that many in this thread didn’t know (the casting of Jimmy Woo and Darcy Lewis for starters) and the trailers contained scenes from future episodes including some pretty big spoiler moments of some key scenes from all the episodes we’ve seen up till now.
Here is the first trailer.
Now I was going to say that we haven’t seen any footage from the final two episodes so we are going into it with a blank slate.
HOWEVER.
I just watched the second trailer again. And I got that wrong. They do have a couple of scenes we haven’t seen. So I’m not going to link to the second trailer, but if you are interested you can check it out yourself. But don’t watch it if you want to avoid any spoilers.
[SPECULATION NOT BASED ON ANYTHING] I hope one of the last episodes is a musical episode It won’t happen, but I would love to see it!
The MCU is all kinds of fucked up as far as ‘culture shock’ goes. The comics universe eased into it wayyyyy better. Just a bunch of ‘Mystery Men’ in WW2…the occasional fake Cap appearance, the FF, mutants here or there…Submariner drowns NY…
MCU: THE FUCK IS HAPPENING TO NYC??? Aliens are real??? WTF??? Did you see what happened to Sokovia?? Oh God the aliens are back in NYC!! ok, they’re gone every one settle d…
MCU: THE FUCK IS HAPPENING TO NYC??? Aliens are real??? WTF???
Yeah, always thought I’d love to live in the Marvel Universe, but when you put it that way, our world* is a lot less stressful…
*Earth-1218, or DC’s Earth-Prime
A thought: Agatha’s powers that we’ve explicitly seen her use thus far look pretty much exactly like a purple version of Wanda’s, right? And Wanda got her powers from experiments with an infinity stone. Has Agatha been exposed to one or more of them as well at some point…?
So I’ve been against the idea of Mephisto
One other issue. One thing we saw as the first sitcoms went on was a change in the status of women. We are now at a point where the show is a showcase for women with agency, power. Darcy is no super but she has power.
A reveal that a male is the evil power controlling things, with the female characters rescued to some degree by male Doctor Strange. Disney might avoid those optics.
Especially as only one of the MCU films has had a woman as the primary antagonist (admittedly, it was one of the best, but still).

I don’t know, Agatha just has the feeling of an agent of or in league with someone else (i.e. “Ralph”). We’ve still got, what, two hours left? The tradition in the MCU is to set up the next movie’s Big Bad in the stinger, and WandaVision is setting up the next Dr. Strange movie. My theory is that Agatha is working with – if not necessarily for – Nightmare. Honestly, I base this on nothing more than internet rumors and his history as a Dr. Strange antagonist.
I know nothing from Nightmare but it sounds like none of the potential reveals are Big Bad and female. And IF this does turn out that this show’s strong women characters with powerful agency are all outranked by more powerful men who have controlled them (Big Bad or Bads to be revealed) or rescue them (Doctor Strange to come), there may be a bit of a deserved backlash.
Right now we have this show pretty much failing a reversed Bechdel test - pretty much any male in this show is talking about a female character whether there is a female character in scene with them or not, let alone with another male. And it works wonderfully!
Any hope of a gender neutral evil spirit in the MCU?
I re-watched Captain Marvel last night, and I was reminded that space travel in the MCU involves traveling through hex-shaped portals. I have no idea if this is significant, but it’s interesting that they’ve used “giant glowy floating hexes” in two different contexts in the MCU.
Maybe the MCU is fundamentally a hex-based universe?
Also, do NJ houses usually have storm cellars like that? I think of those as midwestern things?
I’ve owned two straight houses with Bilco doors to the basement and stairs inside. Damn handy to have both. Not a storm cellar, but a basement. Fairly common in New Jersey.
(admittedly, it was one of the best, but still).
You think so? I would have said it was middle of the pack, and kind of felt like my opinion was a fairly average one (ignoring the assholes who rank it an F F F because of SJWs blah blah blah). This listing of MCU movies sorted by tomatometer puts it 6th from the bottom, ahead of Thor 1 and 2, Hulk, Iron Man 2 and Age of Ultron. (And I agree it’s better than all of those). (I mean, obviously taste is subjective, yada yada yada).

Huh? According to your list, it’s 4th from the top.

…well I do. Its personally easily my favourite Marvel movie after Thor Ragnarok. Many of the reviewers (and I read the reviews), especially male reviewers, missed the point of Danver’s character arc. This twitter thread articulates it best:
Movie reviews are a reflection of the reviewer, and in 2017 77.8% of movie reviews were written by men, and 82% were written by white people. This makes a difference.
Analysis of reviews of top releases found that only 22.2% were written by women, with 82% of critics white
@MaxTheVool, @Alessan, @Banquet_Bear:
I think there’s a good deal of confusion because Alessan didn’t name the film with a primary female antagonist they were referring to. Correct me if I’m wrong, Alessan, but I believe you were referring to Thor: Ragnarok, which had a female primary antagonist, Hela, while MaxTheVool and Banquet_Bear thought you were referring to Captain Marvel, which had a female primary protagonist.
while MaxTheVool and Banquet_Bear thought you were referring to Captain Marvel , which had a female primary pro tagonist.
…good call and well spotted
Fortunately my bases are covered as Captain Marvel is my number 1 movie and Thor Ragnarok is my number two!!!
