Well done David. You got it. By the way, “he” is a she.
I was raised American. If there were a god…it would be my enemy. No kings here. Does your church lock its doors? Mine did. It stopped when it wasn’t my church anymore.

You think all Christians are perfect Amy Grant has been forgiven and so can you just ask. I will assure you Amy Grant is GOING to Heaven!!!
Did you hear it from the big guy himself, GG?
Some drink at the fountain of knowledge…others just gargle.
Okay, lesse here…
Heaven gets Amy Grant…
Meanwhile, I’ve got Jimi Hendrix, John Bonham, Jim Morrison, Bon Scott, and Kurt Cobain.
Where do YOU want to spend eternity?
Oh, and we got air conditioning here now as well… Something about the prospects of a Rams-Colts Super Bowl…
Yer pal,
Satan
It’s good to see that GG has a direct line to God Himself and know who is or isn’t saved…

Right here, its more amusing.
Oh, and that aint air conditioning, its just glacial formation…you’ve had air conditioning a long time, I mean what else do you do with windbags like bible-thumpers and politicians? After all a breeze is a breeze, even if it does occasionally smell of garlic.

I’m re-posting this link because you folks have just got to read this. I’m serious.

Is it just me or does Wally frequently have nothing to say except inflammatory remarks? And he accused me of being an ass. Wally, you are a big jerk and I would love to give you directions to my home so we could “talk”. And he excuses himself by saying people got him riled. Poor guy can’t control himself I guess. Sounds like he needs… nevermind…
That being said…
Hell and the concept that a person will be there forever in torment and pain is something that has caused me to question my faith. What kind of God would do such a thing? I mean does even Hitler deserve to be tormented day and night for eternity? I’m sure most would say yes but on the grand scale of things it seems like even he doesn’t deserve that much punishment. I mean I would think a million or two years of torture would get the point across. So you might argue that God doesn’t send us to hell, we send ourselves to hell by rejecting him. I could be wrong but I would bet my pay for the rest of my lifetime not one person will voluntarily jump into The Lake of Fire (that is what the Bible calls the final judgement. Hell & hades are the exact same word in greek so I’m not sure how someone can differentiate between the two).
Nevertheless, when I think of the concept of eternal hell I often think that if I did make it to Heaven (yeah right, heathen that I am) I would petition God to take those souls in the lake of fire and totally and completely destroy them, i.e. put them out of their misery. It is often said that God is a just God and that is why there must be punishment for bad. I agree. However, the punishment seems quite excessive and dare I say Un-Godlike.
Seems like a very cruel god.

Cool it. Now. And the last guy who made veiled threats like that was booted from the board. You may consider that a hint not to do it again.

I find myself in agreement with PBD. Which means, of course, that whatever Hell used to be it is now suitable for use as a hockey rink.
To say that Hell is the experience of separation from God which is chosen freely by the unbeliever is an ethically sound and metaphorically brilliant conception. It implies, really, that the experience is loss, not pain, and that the sufering is only in comparison to the ineffable joy of unioin with God. Now, I don’t believe in this conception either, but it is not ethically objectionable.
To inflict an eternity of pain and torment on a soul, without any chance of redemption or any purpose of moral/ethical/spiritual development is simply cruel beyond human comprehension. If I punish a child it is because I expect him to learn from his mistake and correct his behavior. That is guidance. If I continue to punish him without cease and without ever giving him a chance to learn his lesson or to mend his behavior, I am a sadistic monster who should never be allowed power over another child.
