Wanted! City of Heroes Players!

I forgot the links.

Main Board Thread.

Castle chimes in on page 24.

BAB describes the animiations as they currently look.

Posi chimes in on why Willpower instead of Shields.

Add liberal helpings of “DOOOOOOooom!!!” and you have a typical CoH main board thread.

Is there a list of all the PvP contest participants anywhere? I’d love to see how many varaitions of “Ownage” ( ) are in there.

Some Issue 11 data up. The data’s up in Europe now, it’s supposed to be up over here soon. New missions involving a time travelling Ourosboros organization. Some new content set in the past, and the "flashback * " system some people have been asking for. Also, limited weapons customization, new very rare IOs, and new IO sets for buffs/debuffs.

  • Travel back and do old missions in exemplared form, for old and new badges. They can also be customed :

Wow. Positron and company must be feeling pretty smug. They got to cross off a bunch of stuff from the big whiteboard.

I’m assuming we’ll see beta of I11 in November. Sure hope it isn’t too buggy, 'cause it’ll be hard waiting for it to go live.

Two words: Weapon Customization

For anyone who missed it, Issue 11 Open Beta is on Test. Dual Blades, Weapons Customization, Flashback, new IOs and new content; come and get it ! And snag any bugs you can.

I just went onto Test this afternoon and started the Ouroboros training missions. I was sent back into Outbreak — and yes, you can get Isolator that way.

And it’s a LOT easier to defeat Contaminated when you can whistle up a Warwolf to pound on them instead of just using your level one powers. Temp powers work fine even when you are exempted down.

My prayers have been answered.

One word of warning. While temp powers can make it easier, you will still want to switch to Heroic before doing the Ouroboros missions. Level one with 2 powers can be a bear against level 3s.

NCsoft has bought the Co franchise from Cryptic, along with some of their key staff! NC has announced plans for a debt wipe, 20K prestige for SGs, and making Heroes content available for those who only have Villains and vice versa.

official press release

After careful consideration of this, I have come to the conclusion that there is no downside to this announcement at all. And quite a few upsides.

I’m more refraining from judgement than optimistic. If this means more money and attention for CoX, then good. If the dev team gets broken up and put on different products and new people are sent in to fold, bend, spindle and mutilate the game into something else, then that would be bad. At this point, there’s no way to tell; and Cryptic could have done the latter anyway. And at least NC Soft isn’t some total third party.

I’m with you on this one Der. For the most part at least; I realize there’s really no reasonable way to tell from just the announcement what it’ll mean for the franchise, but reading the linked announcement gives me an ominous impression. I’ll wait and see, and enjoy the hell out of the game in the mean time.

Well, they have announced at the COH forums that the entire current Dev team is staying with the game (only one they lost was Stateman, who has not been working on the game anyway), all of them are moving to the new NorCal studio in the silicon valley, and they will be receiving more developers and more money for the game. Since they already have 2 development studios, they certainly didn’t need to spend the money on starting a new one in a new location.

I am fairly optimistic about the prospects for the game.

Sean “Manticore” Fish has returned to the dev team.

Well, it’s more like the dev team has joined Manticore. He’s still working on another project at NCSoft, but now that the dev team also works for NCSoft, it’s likely that he’ll be able to work with them a bit more. He’s not going to be full time on City, however.

Also, he’s in Texas.

Count me in the optimistic set. Statesman hasn’t been doing much, and his vision and mine seem to differ. He wants a game that offers a challenge to very skilled players, I want one that’s fun to play casually. He thinks 3 even-level minions should be a challenge for a hero, I think that’s crazy. BAB, Castle, Positron and the rest seem to be more in line with what I want out of the game.

I think NCSoft is looking at the universe of games, seeing more superhero games coming and deciding to invest and stake their claim rather than bailing out. And that makes me happy, because CoH is the game I play now.

Anyone play on Freedom?
