Many welcomes, Albert! A man (I presume?) with tastes as eclectic as my own. And you’re right—who could forget the Weinie King?
Among the references I caught in your spoilers are “The House of Mirth,” “White Mischief,” “Great Expectations,” “Made for Each Other,” “Meet John Doe,” “Ball of Fire,” “Quantum Leap,” Bugs and Popeye . . . and possibly “Bringing Up Baby” (George gets his comeuppance?).
Eve
You have excellent taste, Eve. I must admit that I’ve not seen “White Mischief,” and couldn’t fit the film to one of the spoilers. “Made for Each Other” starred Carole Lombard and Jimmy Stewart. That particular spoiler (Carole Lombard gets her skies crossed. Robert Montgomery gets her back. Hitchcock gets embarrassed.) refers to the only “Screwball Comedy” Hitchcock ever directed. Another hint – there’s a ferris wheel sequence. That’s all I remember!
“Bringing Up Baby” sort of fits “George gets his comeuppance,” but I was thinking of another movie. Think Booth Tarkington (the novelist), Joseph Cotten, Orson Welles directing his second film, Tim Holt as “George,” etc…
I am singularly impressed by Eve recognizing The House of Mirth, Ball of Fire and Meet John Doe. I thought nobody would get those!
Here are three more novels:
George ain’t mad, and he shoots Lenny in the head to prove it. (Hint: NOT a Tarantino movie.)
Prewitt is shot and killed. His body contributes to the sand hazard.
Grimm stabs Joe Christmas to death in Hightower’s house. Grimm then collects a mighty grisly souvenir from the body of Christmas.
All this violence! I think I’m going to watch “Sesame Street.”
The child of Bhaal put Jon Irenicus, the Elf Queen’s ex-husband, into Hell, while a group of hooded people on a table think that the Child is getting too strong.
